3 through - very satisfactory indeed.

Yes, we'd certainly have taken three out of four. It's true they were dream draws but three of our women were in on wildcards, and Hev and Harriet certainly didn't have straightforward wins.

Well done to them !

Well our first round ladies are complete now and we'd all have accepted 3 out of 4 at the outset. Next round lineups decided too, except for Harriet, where I thought Garbine would be a shoe in, but incredibly she looks like she is going to go out in the first round. no

Garbine what have you done disbeliefdisbelief  On the brighter side, it increases Harriet's next round chances a whole heap.

Pity about Katie, and yes she needs to find some better form, but 3 out of our 4 MD entries through ( with some missing due to injury ). I certainly take that!

Overall with 3 into R2, as last year, we already have more points in total ( MD + Q ) than we finished with last year, 282 against 274.

Well done.

Heather first up on No 1 court tomorrow. Never seen her play live before - don't know if I'll be able to stand the tension !

Good stuff. Enjoy!

And re tension I guess you are lucky that Heather matches are generally so straightforward

A lot of doubles pairs are playing tomorrow, 4 womens pairs and 10 men across various pairings, so 18 of our 28 entries. So might be worth a walk around the grounds at various points

Great to see Harriet and Jo win.

Great chance for Harriet in round 2 now. Hope she can keep hold of the nerves.

Just been looking at the order of play. Three ladies doubles all starting at 11 so might not be able to catch any of them (2.5 hour drive to get there = rush hour traffic)

Really pleased to see us get 3 out of 4 women through to the second round, and a wonderful couple of days at Wimbledon 2019.

I was most surprised to see so much negativity on here regarding Heather's performance - comments suggesting she should retire from tennis, and that her performance was somehow comic. It didn't feel like that courtside and I think Heather should be praised for hanging in against a talented youngster, rather than pilloried because she is never going to be World Number One. It wasn't a great quality match, but I've seen lots worse over the years.

Heather has been a consistent Top 100 performer for a lot of years now. She may have dropped rankings this year a little, but this result will help that. Against a talented youngster, she hung in and battled hard and from where I was sitting, she always looked the more likely winner. What more did anyone want from a Round One match against a dangerous youngster - any experienced player is on a hiding to nothing in that situation, and to win by any means is the only realistic goal.

The knives seem to be out for Heather as soon as she sets foot on court - apparently she suffers racist abuse on social media too - unacceptable and shocking really.

Harriet battled hard too - looks like her priority is to work on her serve, but on the plus side, she is returning well and shows a good competitive spirit. I feel that in her next match, Haddad Maia will be a tough opponent for her - I remember seeing the Brazilian play Laura Robson in the opening match of the first day of Wimbledon in 2017 - she completely outplayed Laura then and has improved a lot since - I think Harriet will need to improve to make it through. To beat Murguruza is a significant achievement for the Brazilian, so she is obviously in good form too.

Poor Katie S - she was thoroughly outplayed and her confidence is clearly at a low ebb - she is a really good player technically - looks to me like most of the issues are mental, so hopefully she can go away and regroup and get help with that. I still believe she will improve and will be a top player - right now it feels like she needs some time on the ITF circuit, with wins in small tournaments boosting her clearly fragile confidence.

All three second round matches for our women look incredibly tough to call - Siniakova is a good player too and will no doubt test Jo Ko. Whatever happens with Heather, I just hope people on here give her more respect. What is your problem with her - is it her skin colour I wonder? I really can't work out why she should get so much abuse from several posters - I won't name names, you know who you are.

I was also lucky enough to see a bit of Anisimova and Sharapova. I may have overestimated Anisimova in my prediction after the French, that she could win the tournament - she looked a long way from that today. It was sad to see Maria in such desperate straits - she was a set and 5-2 up when her shoulder injury returned again - I do wonder if that will be her last ever match at Wimbledon, as the injuries seem to get worse and worse and as she gets older and her rankings drop, it must be tough for her to still have the self belief to carry on.

Was also shocked by the barrage of negativity about Heather yesterday...never before come on here after one of our players bas won a grand slam match and seen nothing but negative comments. Really baffling and bizzare, but says a lot more about those commenting than it does about Heather.
