I hate it that on a new entry I can't get single spacing between lines and there is no editing tool that allows me to adjust the spacing either. (except on posting the spaces have now been removed )
I don't think I'm going to post a separate thread for the doubles, unless someone else wishes. I'm not sure we shall have doubles interest long enough to warrant it. And I'm still pissed off EWS has not been awarded a WC!
Slovakian reports saying Cibulkova is out. Presumably she'll collect her £22.5k (which she's entitled to), and a LL spot will definitely open up, although that won't affect Sam.
It was Rodina and Zvonareva the 2 mystery withdrawals.
On paper, I don't think the 1st round draws could have realistically gone much better collectively. You have 2 quals, a LL, and a 31 year old, who just secured her place before the cut off and hasn't played a grass match since losing 3 and 1 at Wimbledon 2016. Not saying there'll be 4 wins, but none of them have little chance.
Dart vs McHale (LL) Konta vs Bogdan (Q) Swan vs Siegemund Watson vs McNally (Q)
McNally has had some impressive grass court results so far, so that's not easy. Konta and Bogdan did have a good battle in Morocco the other week, but that's a nice draw. Swan is outside the top 200 so will be one of the lowest ranked, certainly in the last 11 and a half months anyway as her current ranking has 60 extra points here which need to be defended. Most draws would be tough, but that's very fair. Dart can't complain with a lucky loser either.
You could individually pick a couple of more favourable opponents, but imagine all the seeds that 3 of them could have faced, or players like Ostapenko, Yastremska, Venus, Azarenka etc. that Jo could have faced.
I'll go for 2 wins, but hopefully we can sneak 3.
