Even from a generally non supporter of discretionary Slam MD WCs, while we have them Paul's particular one was to me one of the most welcome with how he has advanced at college and in his limited pro appearances including very recent grass challenger and ATP 250 qualifying.
It was unsurprisingly widely welcomed on the forum in advance of play as distinct to after a maybe rather understandable dodgy first set.

As has always been said about him, he is a fast learner, starting to come into the net much more. Even if he loses in 3, he's already shown more than enough promise to justify fully the WC. Some futures level player that's for sure.
I agree, Michael. Paul v dino at surbiton was a pretty cagey performance. But each match I watched on live stream after, he got better and better. It's all a learning curve
Just seen Tomic v Tsonga highlights - outrageous, that was an embarrassment. The guy should have his money with held for not trying and be suspended from playing. that was unprofessional and this is the biggest event in the world. So wrong.
There's a little bit about him that reminds me of Evo. Not the tennis as such. But he's a little scrappy player, who loves the fight, who lifts himself and who reacts positively to the energy of the crowd.
He looks like he's got potential, but he hasn't got the mental toughness yet (just won set 3, and has gone awol mentally in set 4). I hate the way the commies are bigging him up as being 'only' 19 in the way they were Cori yesterday. For me he's not a dead cert for no 1, or anywhere near. However, he IS good, and looks like he could go at least top 100, probably top 50 which isn't to be sniffed at. We have another challenger player
