Week 26 - ITF (W15) - Alkmaar, Netherlands - Clay

Beth played mainly on clay when she returned to Europe last year too. And her ranking is as high as it is basically because she hasn't played since last August in pro matches, so hard yet to gauge where her 'level' is yet. Her singles CH is 551, so slightly better than Yudanov who beat her today. Since she is a top academic student at Stanford however, it's not clear just how much a pro tennis career will be her major draw when she graduates

SF: Emily ARBUTHNOTT/ Gabriella DA SILVA FICK (GBR/AUS) [1] 864 (341+523) beat Mylene HALEMAI/ Valentina IVANOV (FRA/NZL) 1725 (862/863) 17yrs/18yrs 6-2 6-1

F: Emily ARBUTHNOTT/ Gabriella DA SILVA FICK (GBR/AUS) [1] 864 (341+523) vs Eva VEDDER/ Stephanie Judith VISSCHER (NED/NED) UNR/UNR

Indeed, she goes her own path. She is in qualifying in a W15 in Estonia week of 15 July, after the World University Games. She needs the 3 counters by mid-August. Two to go now.

She will have two counters in singles one from Ystadd and from this week (in August). I think she'll be going for the full set.

With a degree from Stanford it's difficult to see her playing ITF - good luck to her confuse

Ystad wasn't a counter unfortunately. Emily didn't qualify. So she still just has the one new counter so far.

And yes, I agree, I don't think I see her living out of a suitcase plying the ITF circuit post-Stanford.

So Emily now adds a W15 doubles title to her W25 doubles title of last week. She can certainly play this side of the discipline ok

F: Emily ARBUTHNOTT/ Gabriella DA SILVA FICK (GBR/AUS) [1] 864 (341+523) beat Eva VEDDER/ Stephanie Judith VISSCHER (NED/NED) UNR/UNR 6-4 1-6 10-8 .

Marina Yudinov who beat Emily yesterday in the QF is now into the final with an easier win over the 3rd seed than she did against Emily. Plays a qualifier, and I'd be surprised if Yudanov doesn't win it now.
