Beth played mainly on clay when she returned to Europe last year too. And her ranking is as high as it is basically because she hasn't played since last August in pro matches, so hard yet to gauge where her 'level' is yet. Her singles CH is 551, so slightly better than Yudanov who beat her today. Since she is a top academic student at Stanford however, it's not clear just how much a pro tennis career will be her major draw when she graduates
It will be interesting to see where she plays this season - has never been a traditionist
Indeed, she goes her own path. She is in qualifying in a W15 in Estonia week of 15 July, after the World University Games. She needs the 3 counters by mid-August. Two to go now.
Marina Yudinov who beat Emily yesterday in the QF is now into the final with an easier win over the 3rd seed than she did against Emily. Plays a qualifier, and I'd be surprised if Yudanov doesn't win it now.
