Just imagine being 19 and choosing between £45k prize money or finishing a degree! Hes allowed some prize money though, right? Towards cost of playing etc...
From Stu Fraser's article on Thursday (my bold):
While Jubb has earned an ATP world ranking of 579 through his recent success, he cannot be regarded as a professional because he is still attached to the University of South Carolina. This means that he cannot accept the full £45,000 that comes with a wild card, only a suitable amount that covers travel and other expenses. "There are certain rules and stuff," Jubb said. "It is something I have got to figure out. I'm just concentrating on playing for now. I am so grateful for the opportunity. I wasn't really banking on it when people were asking me before. I was anticipating [a wild card for] qualifying but that was before I did pretty well in the last two Challengers."
QR1: (qWC) Paul Jubb WR 579 defeated (q8) Denis Istomin (UZB) WR 105 by 6-2 5-7 7-6(6)
This young man battles all the way & is definitely earning his Wimbledon main draw wild card. Something tells me there's going to be quite a lot interest in seeing him play there.

FQR: (q3) Andrey Rublev (RUS) WR 81 (CH = 35 in February last year) vs (qWC) Paul Jubb WR 579
QR1: (qWC) James Ward WR 212 defeated (q5) Lloyd Harris (RSA) WR 87 by 4-6 7-6(7) 6-4
Dino was well & truly out-aced there (five to Harris' 28!), but I doubt he'll care & I'm sure he'll welcome the six points that come with that win.

Just got back from Eastbourne, was lucky enough to see all of Jubb and Ward.
Was so impressed with Paul. The first set he played was immaculate tennis. He moves brilliantly, solid on either side, excellent defensive skills, and a great touch. Istomin hits a really heavy ball but Jubb dealt with it so well. Second set his level dipped a little and Istomin upped his game. The one think against him at the moment is lack of free points on his serve.
Kept his nerve really well in the decider and the crowd really got into it.
Wards first set was complete opposite. Harris was serving bombs and James looked sluggish. Crowd not into it at all. But fair play he really upped his game much to the annoyance of Harriss mum who I was next to! He deserved the win in the end playing some decent stuff.
A great day saw loads of players practise Norrie, Fritz, Querrey, Svitolina, Wozniacki. Saw Bublik have a real meltdown in his first set the sun was out and I even had Katherine Grainger in front of me. Recommend it to anyone.
