Most of us will no doubt have our favourites. Of our current top ranked 3 mine is Dan even though at their bests I think Kyle is the best. But to have 3 ( indeed maybe even 4 ) in the top 50 or beyond (!) would be great. 3 in the live top 60 for now.
I am also pleased for Kyle and hope he can beat Fritz (Tennis Abstract favours Kyle but for what it is worth, still has Querrey as a heavy favourite and he is in the semis).
For Dan, my concern is that great grass court season he has had, his two losses at the bigger events have come across actually quite similar players, in Stan W and Kyle. Both have massive groundstrokes and can outpower Dan and that is the concern , not so much big servers as Dan has guile on return to get the ball back and confuse, break once a set etc, but on groundstrokes, the pace and power can clearly beat him.
I hope he manages to avoid that type of player at Wimbledon.
I'm hoping I can be a lucky charm for Kyle today, as I'm there and really looking forward to it!
As for three in the top 50, I'm also hoping we can get Jay and Paul into the top 100 by the end of next year. I think both of them have the ability and it would be great for British tennis. Jay could have had slightly easier draws over the summer. Hopefully he'll be luckier for Wimbledon. Paul has certainly made the most of his opportunities and if he can continue to regularly beat people around the 100 ranking level, who knows? I assume he'll get a few wildcards in the US due to his NCAA win, which should help.

I am certainly with you on the Jay front and hope he can make top 100 by the end of next year. As for Paul, I am not inclined to rush things. He is going back to finish his education and we won't see a realistic ranking until he plays a complete year on the circuit.
The story of the match appears to be, as Jan posted earlier, missing 5 SPs in the 1st set and BP conversions. Fritz was 1/1 while Kyle was 0/7. On such fine margins ....

Yes it was v fine margins. Kyle was setting up points really well and then just pushing the clinching shot wide. Fritz played the key points better. But the quality of the tennis was so much higher than the other semi final. Kyle did some lovely shots, including one sliced shot that just died at Fritzs feet. I dont think Kyle will be too disappointed with his performance today if not the result; a couple of netcords going in his favour might have made all the difference!
PS re: Paul Jubb, Im sure youre right Bob, hes got loads of time to make his mark!

Re just missing the key shot, I noticed a couple of years ago that whenever Kyle came back off a lay-off or a break, his timing was always slightly off and at key moments his backhand down the line would drift into the tramlines.
It would take him a couple of matches to get his timing right. Given his lack of matches this year, that may explain what you have said.
