Next match is the one that counts for a point, and it looks like it will be an altogether tougher proposition.

Fran was one of those withdrawals here (Minsk thread), so looks like she does fully intend to play W quallies and make the best go of it possible.

Emily is also playing doubles with Anna Danilina (KAZ) and they are 2nd seeds. Swedish pair up first.

Given Emiily's record that doesn't come as a surprise.

Good luck to Emily this week smile

I thought this would be too much for Emily and it was, even if a battling performance in a match that was a full 2 hours. I've just looked at her situation, and she has 4 counters, but 3 expire by 22 July, and the last in Aug. She also has no ITF rank, so no W15 counters either. Means she has a month now to regain those counters or her singles ranking will drop off. It may not be easy, particularly in Europe on clay.

FQR: Emily ARBUTHNOTT (GBR) [q9] 792 lost to Iva PRIMORAC (CRO) [q4] 599 (CH:581) 3-6 3-6

Emily and Anna have a very comfortable 6-1 6-1 first round doubles win. Emily back in her forte. Play another Swedish pair in the QF.

Great result for Emily, lovely to see her back and winning doubles titles again

Next week she's in the Netherlands for a W15 event. She needs 3 counters of any sort in the next 6 weeks or so to retain her WTA ranking.
