Week 25 - WTA Premier ($1M) - Birmingham, Great Britain Grass

Only from the TV at RG, but I though Venus looked ill - her face seemed rather puffy, and just ill looking....

I'm not really sure why she is keeping going the way she is. It's as though she knows no other life, like a soldier who keeps wearily trudging on, though i thought she and Serena had plenty of other interests. I guess she wants to keep going to the US Open maybe, but surely it's nearly time for her to call time?

She's one of those people that loves playing and competing. She won quite a few matches on the hard courts earlier this year, so can still be competitive on her day. But time is getting closer for both Venus and Serena to retire (and for the WTA to find someone else to go on and on about.......)

Yes, I'm worried about Naomi Osaka in that regard. There are already a few grating edges there that I hope won't persist...

A far better second set from Harriet but with points for a 3-0 lead which she squandered carelessly, she'll feel she should have done better, as she loses in two.

How obnoxious was Poots' end of match celebration?

I found her very annoying the way she was speaking to the ballgirls too.

I don't usually say this about players but she just sets my teeth on edge with her histrionics. I very much dislike.

Jo was a very early break down and it's went with serve since. *2-5

Jo had 4 break points in the very first game, then Ostapenko started playing.
Sadly for Jo, Ostapenko is on top form.
