Week 25 - WTA Premier ($1M) - Birmingham, Great Britain Grass

I am going for 0/5 wins. Pessimistic or realistic...?

Odds-wise, most ranged from 7/2 to 6/1 (Tara, Freya, SBG and Eden), so all significant outsiders, Bains is the closest at 11/8, but I agree with CD there and have been a bit unimpressed with her and Liu has grass pedigree, having won Jr Wimbledon 2 years ago and came through Wimb quals last year, won a match, and if I remember correctly, was the only player to take a set off Kerber, so I am also expecting 0 from 5.

There's just far too much grass court tennis to follow at the moment. Diyas-Brengle in Manchester on the LTA's Facebook stream, with Sam to follow, Vekic on Eurosport, Dan in Nottingham on the ATP live streams, Jack in Queens, these qualifiers in Birmingham, and even the semi finals of WTA Rosmalen on BT Sport.

And Dom's final at 's-Hertogenbosch is also in progress - wel suspended due to rain after 5 minutes.

Yes, that as well. Didn't leave it off on purpose as I wasn't aware, but that will clearly have more interest on this board than a lot of those I mentioned. Mind, from my POV, I was/am looking forward to Rybakina-Bertens at the same location, so hopefully the weather clears up soon for all those involved. Riske must have got her SF out of the way just in time there.

Main draw is out:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Birmingham_Classic_%E2%80%93_Singles

Konta-Kontaveit
Dart-Putintseva
Heather-Strycova

Barty vs Vekic stands out as a R1 match.

Putintseva's (or Poots) attitude I find quite ghastly so I hope Harriet wins more so than ever!

And then all of a sudden, it's all gone very quiet on the women's (and GB single's) side - rain in Rosmalen, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham - admittedly the latter 2 are very near each other.

They are back playing after a rain delay. Beth had an early break but has been pegged back to 3-3. Eden trails 3-5

From my crystal ball above no

"(however, I was really unimpressed when I saw Bains play a couple of years back at Surbiton and, despite the hype, I remain the same after seeing her this year. So she'll probably be the one to get the win and the others will fall on their nose )."

As Naiktha goes into a 3-0 lead, it's looking dead impressive, CD

Happy for her to keep surprising me as well CD.

I was thinking 11/8 looked far too short, but it's looking anything but at the moment, ha. 6-1

Edit - injury break for someone, got to be Liu.

Liu has just broken 1-2*, but there's another injury break.
