Week 24 - ITF (W25) Minsk, Belarus Clay

This win is also going to propel Fran into the top 300 for the first time when the 24/6 rankings come out - already she will have a new CH this coming week, so that will be the second week in a row, lifting her about 160 places in the rankings in just two weeks.

And at the same time it will now almost certainly take her up beyond Gabi into the GB #10 position. Currently Gabi is 33 pts behind for 24/6, so will need to reach the SF in Ilkley to stay ahead of Fran.

WOW!!!!

What a fantastic couple of weeks.

Really should be targeting US open qualifying now.

I wonder what will be her plan now. Skip the grass court season? and play more European clay 25k's?

Or WC play-off? Wimbledon quallies WC?

Yes, It will be interesting to see what her plans now are after she has fallen in love with Minsk. She is still down to play in Sweden next week, where she will get an SE, meaning we won't know until Monday evening whether she actually makes it there. After that she is not listed to play, meaning she could turn up for Wimbledon qualifying, but whether she does that without any grass tournament warm up, we will see. After Wimbledon, whether she plays or not, expect she will return to the European clay circuit at least for the time being. Late last year she did play some indoor hard court tournaments in Canada, and played in the UK (Woking).

Her points are now obviously lopsided - she will have 159 week after next with a whole 100 of those coming these last two weeks. Of the balance she has 40 dropping off in the Aug-Nov period, so suspect she will focus for the time being simply on further points accrual. She would still have a way to go to achieve US Open qualifying, and not sure that will be an immediate target. However to play in the French Open next year undoubtedly will be an aim. So think she will still be looking the longer rather than shorter route for the time being. Of course, one or two more tournament wins should they happen in the short term could really change things.

I think she wants to play Wimbledon qualifying as she is the only Brit, outside of those that played Wimbledon main draw last year and Naiktha, to have entered.

Ok, well that's clear then, and I'm sure she will get a QWC after these last two weeks! I'm not sure she will travel to Sweden next week. Maybe she will return now for some grass court practice?

Looking at the Sweden W25 Q draw, it looks like there have been 2 withdrawals, so one could well be Fran - we'll know for sure tomorrow. Emily Arb is in that Q draw.

Not quite sure how Clara Tauson has ended up Q1 seed there though, no QWC and she wasn't in the initial entry list.

Thre are 6 byes in qualifying, so not enough players signed in. Clara must have been an on-site entry

Ah, fair enough. Certainly puts the cat amongst the pigeons in that Q draw, fortunately Emily has avoided her in a potential FQR.

If Fran has ideas of playing W quals, which it looks like she does, then I personally hope she is one of those withdrawals and gets a bit of rest / grass practice. The field does generally looks a bit tougher than the past 2 weeks, especially if Clara qualifies, although a few names like Kan and Bjorklund and the (North) Macedonian girl who Fran beat last week seem to have also made the trip from Minsk.
