I had my usual flick through these W15 threads, expecting to move on pretty swiftly, but Ali Collins is interesting and it should be her first match of the year. It's only 9 or 10 months ago when she got those W25 WCs and beat Lissey and competed well against Rus, so was hoping she would have pushed on more by now.
Anyone know if she's been injured or just studying or something?
Anoushka lost, so just Ali left. Not sure of the answer to your question Ace, but I think injured more than studying. She hasn't played in an ITF event since Dec. Ali is from Dunblane, Jamie and Andy's home town. Ali has the q2 seed up next.

Ali is quite an instinctive player and relatively good around the net, I think a pretty good doubles player. I felt watching her in the past that it was consistency off the ground that certainly needed to be much improved.

She was also coached by Nik Slater for quite a while which, in my opinion, made her singles suffer but strengthened her doubles.
As you say, Ali is a natural ball player. And at 14 has a serious amount of potential. But the coaching in the US never worked out, nor - really - with Nik. And it seemed to me that she just lost her way.
