Week 24 - ITF (W100) - Manchester, Great Britain - Grass

Looks like Scarlett is about the last. I'd be surprised if she makes any impression at all on Hibi

It's a pity Sam and Vic are in the same segment as I would have thought they were the two most likely to progress.

Q1: PITAK, Katarzyna (GBR) UNR v HEISEN, Vivian (GER) 10 448 CH=328
Q1: GILLAN, Alice (GBR) UNR v STEFANI, Luisa (BRA) 9 432 CH=431
Q1: HUTCHINSON, Holly (GBR) UNR v INGLIS, Maddison (AUS) 3 274 CH=271
Q1: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) 711 v GLEASON, Quinn (USA) 8 333 CH=328
Q1: HUTCHINSON, Scarlett (GBR) UNR v HIBI, Mayo (JPN) 4 276 CH=166
Q1: PITAK, Aleksandra (GBR) UNR v FETT, Jana (CRO) 7 318 CH=97
Q1: MPUKUSA, Kimberley Alinafe (GBR) UNR v SANCHEZ, Maria (USA) 5 303 CH=107
Q1: TSIMBILAKIS, Ellie (GBR) UNR v NEEL, Ingrid (USA) 12 632 CH=501
Q1: ALLEN, Victoria (GBR) 676 v KOSTIC, Natalija (SRB) 6 304 CH=275
Q1: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) 11 540 v MOULD, Lillian (GBR) UNR

So we have eight unranked players in the Q tournament of a W100 event, none of which are WCs. A few months ago unranked players couldn't get into the Q tournament of a W15 for love or money.

Yes the often uttered but never answered question re 15Ks in general and no 25Ks or 15Ks ( indeed heading higher if anything ) in the great British grass season  ( except if you are a lower ranked or unranked British pro )

The season seems purely set up as Wimbledon preparation and then Wimbledon. A showcase to the world and not a time to be bothering about most of our players.

Yes. And a very expensive pre-Wimbledon preparation.

Which does not seem to have any real positive effect on the UK players (you could hardly say we get lots of unexpected wins at Wimbledon), although it might be very useful for the better players from other countries who hardly ever play on grass - oh, goody !

I echo those sentiments, but anyone who wants to see British players progress would have them.  Who made the decision for this tournament and based on what?  It does next to nothing for British players where as there are many who would benefit from more smaller ones at anytime during the year.  Disgraceful.

Play has started on time in Manchester, but the weather forecast I saw a couple of hours ago wasn't that great.

Vic is putting up a good show, and Lilly has won a few games, but the first two sacrificial lambs are out in very little time:

Q1: MPUKUSA, Kimberley Alinafe (GBR) UNR lost to SANCHEZ, Maria (USA) 5 303 CH=107 2-6 0-6

Q1: TSIMBILAKIS, Ellie (GBR) UNR lost to NEEL, Ingrid (USA) 12 632 CH=501 1-6 0-6

On the ITF scoreboard they show Mpukusa as Zimbabwean, are they behind or has she moved to them  from GB?

Vic lost 6-7(5) 5-7, but looks a good effort over someone fresh from winning a W25 final (vs Maia). Holly H made a great start against another recent W25 winner Inglis and had chances for a double break, but the Aussie is on the board now *2-1.
