Katy and EWS have withdrawn from their doubles, presumably Katy protecting herself? Anyway, leaves the winners of the match between Heather/Wickmayer and Bains/Broady as out last pairing/player in womens doubles

Pity for Em. She's really been on a doubles roll lately. But Katy was out of action recently so maybe not fully confident of her fitness yet. Though always could be a problem with Em.

Oh no. That's a real pity - I was hoping they could get a partnership going.

(1) AVU (Y) vs (Q) McNally (N)
(3) Riske (Y) vs (WC) Dunne (Y)

(5) Rybarikova (Y) vs Watson (Y)
Wickmayer (N) vs Lapko (Y)/(2)Maria(Y)

It's looking quite good now for the potential Surbiton WC to be left for a Brit - would be even better if either Hev or Katy could take it of course, but only McNally and Wickmayer remain (outside of the Brits) who would need a Wimbledon MDWC. AVU has just scraped past Dolehide, so McNally might fancy her chances there.

My instinct is that a good run at any grass event for a Brit would secure a wild card anyway. eg Semifinals in a ITF100, quarterfinals at Nottingham, last 16 with a decent first round win at  Birmingham, Eastbourne. Win their next match and I reckon Heather and / or Katy will be home and dry, if not already to be honest

You'd like to think so, but it could still be a case of more demand than supply if everyone is fit and there's no further external main draw withdrawals to see the likes of Heather sneaking in directly. Heather will be in regardless, she's just outside the cut, winning matches again, on grass, one of the biggest names in British tennis etc. so it's surely 99.99% she will get a WC if needed, but I don't see Wimbledon (not the LTA) not giving one to someone like McNally if she were to win this, especially coming through quals, beating the #1 seed (in this instance) and potentially Katy to lift the title. Wimbledon are introducing schemes all over the world to ensure grass is still relevant to young players with initiatives in China and India and what not, and if a very talented 17 year old American, in her first proper year of the tour, wins the title and was then the first grass ITF winner for quite some time not to be rewarded, then it would be a big surprise to me. Wickmayer might be a bit different, but I'd still expect her to get one. It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks - If Katy does beat Riske (big if mind) then you'd think she would be the 5th Brit in line behind the Fed Cup team, and thus, a good chance of getting in.

In an ideal world, it would be great if they could take 3 MDWCs off the men and give them to the women, ha.

1-1 in sets in the doubles battle of the Brits. Bains showing them all how to volley effectively. Wickmayer must be the least mobile player on the tour.

At the start of the tournament I thought Riske vs Rybarikova would have been the most likely final, so hopefully at least one of the Brits can put a stop to that.

It's the problem with Em partnering a singles player, though I guess Katy didn't expect to win two rounds. Sofia doesn't look like she is going to play on grass though, so Emily is going to need another partner the next few weeks.

Yes, a QF win would have had Em up to GB doubles #6 and around the WR 200 mark, just ahead of Beth, Eden and indeed Freya.

We may just have Heather in the top 100 but in our women's doubles rankings we have a lot of depth just now with the GB #17 ( Alicia B ) being WR 373 and the GB order constantly. interchanging among a lot of mainly non doubles specialists.

Heather, in her 3rd match of the day, is into a doubles SF MTB.

4-6 6-3 ...

Sofia withdrew from all the tournaments she entered for next week, but is in qualifying at the Czech 60k the following week, so I guess she won't be coming over here at all.
