Week 23 - Challenger (€137,560+H) - Surbiton Trophy, Surbiton, Surrey, Great Britain (grass)

Out of interest how does this work. Link below shows choinski as one place off direct entry. He is scratched out as he has a WC. If someone else drops out will he get direct entry and free up a WC or is that too late now?

Doubt Ill make it this year to Surbiton. Normally make it to one day of qualifying but due to the changes and no tennis on this weekend then I doubt Ill make it. With luck I might be able to make it their for 6 one night after work but I doubt there would be much to see.

**** tourn Surbiton, is basically the challenger version of Queens, toff event for toffs to watch, and represents everything wrong with tennis in the UK. Boycott.

Honestly, I absolutely hate stuck up tennis. It's the opposite of what I've been involved in. And I see it here in many places - even some quite 'lowly', surprising places (can't help feelign they need to get over yourselves).

And Queens is off the scale (although I still go Qualis - if it's free, surely morally it's the right thing to do)

But Surbiton is not stuck up or 'toff' tennis. Quite the opposite. In fact, if you were to be snotty about it, and were into analysing accents, clothes, cars, people's jobs, etc. etc. etc., it's actually quite suburban, lower middle class. They are the complete opposite to Queens.

I agree CD. You can't compare Queens and Surbiton. Surbiton is the village fete while Queens is the Chelsea Flower Show. It's very inclusive with players chatting and cheering each other on. Everyone eats in the same cafe. And there's no snottiness at all. People tend to wear jeans and tee shirts. There isn't a designer outfit to be seen. And it's all club volunteers that are running the thing. Just no need to sneer.

Hoping that Brydan gets moved up to a MDWC.

Anyone know when the main draw will be made?

This has to be one of the most pointless, factually incorrect, childish and stupid posts I have ever read on this forum.  It is not even controversial which Vandy likes to be, just a pathetic attempt to rile people.  The ridiculousness of it made me laugh anyway.

Just looked at the entry list what a fantastic mix of young and old. Dustin Brown, the most entertaining player in the game and big serving Karlovic etc, this is going to be a great week!

That should be fascinating to see Paul Jubb play Wardy. I can't get there tomorrow but assume it will be streamed on the usual challenger web site?
