Interesting, after not being in the draw at all, EWS has turned up here with Sam - and Sofia S, her doubles partners - from Jerusalem. Emily and Sam in the q draw. Can only see the OOP so far, but have wholly unranked QR1 opponents, and as they are in the top 6 seeds, will presumably also have lower ranked FQR opponents.
QR1: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [q3] 508 vs Alicia ALEGRE (ESP) UNR/UNR Born 2000
QR1: Samantha MURRAY (GBR) [q5] 540 vs Gemma NEGRE SANCHEZ (ESP) UNR/UNR no profile
Sam and Sofia were always on the list - there must have been a lot of no shows since there are 3 byes in qualifying. I am surprised Em is playing though - she's had a lot of matches over the last three weeks. Probably just went along for the doubles and was talked into it !
One faces IR Payola who has lost 5 on the spin, usually in straights and then the 6th seed
The other is Swiss WC Aiche who lost 0 and 0 in her last match (admittedly to Galfi) and also 2 and 0 in quals to EWS a month ago and then the 8th seed.
So both have fairly straightforward R1 matches and then a low seed. There's also the possibility of the 2, 3 and 4th seeds, including the young Chinese girl who Kaie S beat in FO quals last week.
3rd seed Rodionova has been pretty poor for a while now and has lost 6 on the spin, including many bagels and breadsticks, and I always thought she was well overranked when she was in the top 150 about a year ago, so that could be winnable, but I'd definitely prefer those 2 other spots.
