Going to be a tough one, but they break serve in the first game.

3-6 *1-3. Looking like both will be heading to Surbiton as it stands.

Noticed in womens doubles the 8th seeds the Chans, got a walk over when "alternates" retired. Doesn't name alternates. Does this mean no one was actually in draw? In a slam? Surely they could have found a pair somewhere?

Watson and Maria lost their doubles 3-6 2-6, so both should be fine for Surbiton, and it'll save potentially using one of the MDWC's on Heather like last year.

Bencic quickly won both games when she came back, so she plays Vekic tomorrow and the winner of that will play either Konta or Kuzmova for a place in the QFs.

Swiatek annihilated the 16th seed in 53 mins. Plays Puig next, so a decent chance she could be ranked in the 60s by the time this tournament has finished and if so, she would surely have to be one of the most justified Wimbledon MDWCs for quite some time. Huge talent.

I hope Jo won't be  still struggling with the cold etc.  she had yesterday when she plays Kuzmova tomorrow. I also hope Kuzmova is not  being under-rated just because people( particularly the media) have not heard of her. Even if it ends in the 3rd round it will equal  the best British performance in Paris for 27 years. As an aside the likes of John Inverdale says we will be hearing the names of Swiatek and Anisimova for many years to come. This is fine until one remembers the names of Bellis and Konjuh who were the 2 highest ranking teenagers at the end of 2017. Konjuh won Nottingham in 2015 when she was 17.  Now   18 months on I think both will be lucky if they play again. From a British point of view as highly  ranked teenagers before injury intervened you could add the name of Laura Robson.

There was LL/alt pairing against Van Uytvanck as one of Yastrema or Potapova withdrew - I mean how many pairings do you have around at this time??

I dont know rules to be honest but sort of assumed they could get two juniors or maybe even someone from seniors event? Darn, my wife and daughter would have done it and they dont play tennis ( and are 3000 miles away) but he.

Seriously, didn't realise they needed to be formally signed in, just assumed on site would work

Last time we had a player in the R32 in Paris, anyone?
Virginia or Sue again, probably.

Well done Johanna on another GB tennis chapter rewritten.

As Jo has provided us with our 1st  female player in the 3rd round in Paris since 1992, the French are having a bad time because they have no woman in the 3rd round for the 1st time since 1986. The only other time this  happened  for the French in the Open era was 1981. Now they know what we feel like a lot of the time !

Late to comment but I was lucky enough to watch Jo's match from up close. Some thoughts, not all groundbreaking...

- The weather has a profound impact on Jo's game. The heavy cool conditions make it hard for her to hit through opponents, and sometimes this leads to a tendency to overplay. Lots of shots missing - she wasn't patient enough in rallies (largely due to Davis being that good in the first and second set tbf)
- When she was serving regular first serves, she wins the set. High % first serves critical to her game.
- Second serve good, but still lacking that big kick it had in 2017, which would be hugely helpful on clay (see Stosur in her prime).
- Davis can hit the ball! Was extremely impressed with her ball striking. She was clearly injured with the knee and shoulder and I really admired how she played through the match.
- Jo's dropshots were good! Davis was just insanely quick. Watching it live, we couldn't believe how she managed to change direction so effectively, especially with her knee.

Agree that Kuzmova is underrated here - but today is much warmer in Paris and if she can get on court before 6pm, I think Jo goes in a strong favorite. Fingers crossed!

...that section of the draw though...Stephens, Muguruza, Svitolina and Bencic. Wow.

Interesting comments, thanks, especially those regarding the weather. Looks like Davis gave it a courageous go, despite being inhibited. Hope she recovers soon.

So of these still in, the leading clay season points scorer is one Johanna Konta  smile
