And the Guardian still manages to mention the drugs ban.
Many articles abiut Andy still mention Dunblane and that was even longer ago.
True. But I would think that was a more historical event, in fairness.
Cocaine use is very much a hot topic only last week Lynne Owens was making front page headlines in her role of head of the National Crime Agency (May 9th) discussing the activities of organised crime groups being at unprecedented levels. You cant really sanitise its day to day use for fear of offending those that have used it. Its a fact sportsman use it and get banned for it it at all levels.
In yesterdays non league football news paper former Salford City and Southport striker Mike Phenixs 4 yr ban was reported. He failed an out of competition drug test in September 17th (Oxandrolone and cocaine metabolites in his sample). He was part of the Salford team that won national league North in 2016. Arguably it has distorted the whole fabric of that league. His punishment is proportional to the offence, far worse than Dans and his career is effectively over. Dan is quite rightly getting another opportunity. Why is he not at the level of his career high? it is because he is rehabilitating his career following a year long ban for cocaine use, of course its relevant to his current rank and his position in the game and should be mentioned. I dont think Dan is being unfairly picked on, it is something he has to own.
I dont know what view Paulsi will have on Mr Phenix.......... but I am sure when ever he is mentioned at Southport it will be in close relation to his drugs ban.

While I agree that cocaine is a serious issue, I disagree that it should form part of every article going forward about Dan. Surely everyone who has picked up the sports pages in the last two years will know about it and if they haven't they're not going to know that Dan's level is not at his career high and care even less. Whereas I read the sports news regularly and find it really is tedious to have precious space taken up on it rather than, say, talking about the actual match he just played. It might be relevant if there was a longer article discussing the trajectory of his career. But not every piece about a match he's just won or lost.
He's stood up and admitted his failing, taken his punishment and not bitched at all about it. At some point I'd like to hear about his present and future and not just about the same past story that we all know about anyway.

I agree completely. The story certainly has an important place. But it should not be a prefix for Dan's name, for every single result reported.
