General football thread

I will settle for a point from last night's game although I thought we deserved all three.

On a side note, Jordan Pickford will not be available for Everton at the weekend as he is still at Elland Road waiting to take a goal kick. Seriously, the time wasting started in the 1st 20 mins. Players were being warned by the ref by midway through the first half but in the end, he did nothing about it.

Henry Winter in The Times, mused that Pickford was waiting so long to take a goal kick that perhaps he was waiting for Neil Maupay's registration to go through.

Time wasting spoils the game as a spectacle for me and refs must be much more proactive in combating it.

On a separate note:

OPTA stats: If a team gets 8 points from their first 5 games, they have a 96% chance of staying up.
Leeds Utd: Hold my beer.

Simple solution. Just stop the clock when the ball is not in play.

Graham Potter the next Chelsea manager. I expect he'll be available to go back to Brighton in a few months

Totally gutted. A 3 year journey torn apart in a couple of days. And to add insult to injury he has taken the entire back room staff with him.
We now know where we stand and will go back to our rightful place in the table and let the Top 6 carry on winning everything.

Very disillusioned with football today.

Very tough on Brighton, I agree.  I wonder with what is going on at Leicester, whether you might approach Brendan Rogers.  Would be a good replacement for you.

I would prefer Cooper from Forest or Frank from Brentford but then of course we will be just as bad!

Forest and Brentford more particularly are on journeys. Don't go nicking their manager.

Seriously I can understand it being really galling. You seem to have very good folk behind the scenes but now yes really have to be wise / lucky with your next management team.

Very tough decision on whether to cancel the fixtures this weekend. There will be arguments either way and I respect them all. Personally I would have gone ahead this weekend and used it as an opportunity for the clubs/crowds to pay homage as they did at West Ham's Europa League match. I am sure that many fans have spent money on travel arrangements etc and it is tough on them to cancel at short notice.

I think next weekend will definitely be cancelled and with it's proximity to the date of the state funeral, perhaps this would have made more sense. In all likelihood the matches next weekend will be cancelled as well. I can't see the police wanting thousands of fans heading into London while the preparations are being made for the funeral. They will be overstretched as it is.

Perhaps others see things differently and that's OK. As I said, I can see valid arguments both ways.

Edit

Just noted that the ECB have announced that matches will restart tomorrow (Sat) including the Test Match against South Africa.

I'm sure everyone will be pleased to see that there will still be a home nation Group A team in the next Nations League campaign  biggrin

Scotland will also join England and Wales in Pot 2 in the Euro 2024 qualifying draw to take place in Frankfurt in 12 days time. So they will avoid each other and indeed France. Northern Ireland will be in pot 5.

Had the pleasure of going to watch England U20s vs Australia yesterday. It was all a bit one sided and the 3-0 victory could easily have been 7 or 8.

A few names on show. Liam Delap from Man City and Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea being the two best known although both were held back and came on as late subs. Best player on the park was a lad from Bristol City called Alex Scott despite him missing a penalty.

Manuel Luis Pellegrini Ripamonti Football manager Formerly of 8 Rappax Road, Hale, Altrincham, WA15 0NT and 7 York Drive, Bowdon, Altrincham, WA14 3HF 6 Apr 2014 to 5 Apr 2017 defaulted tax £816,579.80 penalties levied £343,728.07

www.gov.uk/government/publications/publishing-details-of-deliberate-tax-defaulters-pddd/current-list-of-deliberate-tax-defaulters

An interesting list to go through that is publicly published (names , addresses and occupation all made transparently public to name and shame).

Ex City manager , Pellegrini, defaulted on paying over £800k tax and a susbsequent £300k penalty. £1.1m in total. Presumably left the country.

Ex Liverpool and Leicester player, Emile Heskey listed as well but much lower sums. One person I know (from local news) as well on the list.

Just got back from FA Cup at Bradford where my Harrogate Town team won a local derby 1-0. Great win as we played well and havent been playing well this season; Ive not been to an away match before but the atmosphere was crackling. Bradfords stadium was only maybe 1/3rd full with just under 7000 there, we had around 500 fans and well deserved a good win. Onwards !
