General football thread

hHave to say, great starts for Leeds, Brighton and Newcastle, good to see and two good, English , managers as well.

Fab.

Being honest, my Premier League interest has just dwindled away, and is getting to the level where I just read the headlines, look at the scores and move on now. It has got worse that way over the past 3 years - which saddens me - and I cant really put my finger on why. I was an avid Leeds fan until , effectively, we went back to the Prem and my interest seemed to just fall away after that.

I am looking forward to the World Cup very much (I know others arent) in Nov/Dec, though, and am definitely a big England fan - although I have to say I look at some of the names mentioned as players and have no idea who they are, half the time!

Been going to Harrogate's home matches so far this season, mixed start really and sitting mid table, we should have got a point away to Barrow at the weekend really. Hold out hope we will challenge for play offs but think anything other than going down this year will probably be a result.

Interesting. Personally my interest in the Premier League has been pretty unwavering. I find it a great league to watch and follow. Indeed it's even better than the Scottish Premiership

the standard is amazing, I totally agree, it is just my passion that has dwindled.

Strangely, I have got really into Triathlon as a sport to watch at the same time, love it!! And the Cycling eg the Tours etc

Another great Seagulls performance. Sorry Bob but apart from last 10 minutes your guys were second best. Shame we didnt have our shooting boots on.

Can't argue with that.  My live stream dropped out early in the second half but from what I saw up to then, we were second best by some distance.  Brighton have been our bogey team for a while now. That's 7 consecutive visits to Brighton where we have failed to even score.

I will settle for a point from last night's game although I thought we deserved all three.

On a side note, Jordan Pickford will not be available for Everton at the weekend as he is still at Elland Road waiting to take a goal kick. Seriously, the time wasting started in the 1st 20 mins. Players were being warned by the ref by midway through the first half but in the end, he did nothing about it.

Henry Winter in The Times, mused that Pickford was waiting so long to take a goal kick that perhaps he was waiting for Neil Maupay's registration to go through.

Time wasting spoils the game as a spectacle for me and refs must be much more proactive in combating it.

On a separate note:

OPTA stats: If a team gets 8 points from their first 5 games, they have a 96% chance of staying up.
Leeds Utd: Hold my beer.

Simple solution. Just stop the clock when the ball is not in play.

Graham Potter the next Chelsea manager. I expect he'll be available to go back to Brighton in a few months

Totally gutted. A 3 year journey torn apart in a couple of days. And to add insult to injury he has taken the entire back room staff with him.
We now know where we stand and will go back to our rightful place in the table and let the Top 6 carry on winning everything.

Very disillusioned with football today.

Very tough on Brighton, I agree.  I wonder with what is going on at Leicester, whether you might approach Brendan Rogers.  Would be a good replacement for you.

I would prefer Cooper from Forest or Frank from Brentford but then of course we will be just as bad!

Forest and Brentford more particularly are on journeys. Don't go nicking their manager.

Seriously I can understand it being really galling. You seem to have very good folk behind the scenes but now yes really have to be wise / lucky with your next management team.

Very tough decision on whether to cancel the fixtures this weekend. There will be arguments either way and I respect them all. Personally I would have gone ahead this weekend and used it as an opportunity for the clubs/crowds to pay homage as they did at West Ham's Europa League match. I am sure that many fans have spent money on travel arrangements etc and it is tough on them to cancel at short notice.

I think next weekend will definitely be cancelled and with it's proximity to the date of the state funeral, perhaps this would have made more sense. In all likelihood the matches next weekend will be cancelled as well. I can't see the police wanting thousands of fans heading into London while the preparations are being made for the funeral. They will be overstretched as it is.

Perhaps others see things differently and that's OK. As I said, I can see valid arguments both ways.

Edit

Just noted that the ECB have announced that matches will restart tomorrow (Sat) including the Test Match against South Africa.
