I'd fully expect that to be Vekic vs LL before Sunday.
Jo can't have any complaints with that. It obviously depends who she gets because drawing someone like Pera (who does have a tough FQR) or Nara/Perrin is different, but she is pretty much guaranteed to play someone outside the top 100 or just inside and then R2 is pretty favourable as well should she get there - US WC Lauren Davis or the lesser Pliskova and both of those are outside the Wimbledon cut off, so when you consider all the players she could have played - Azarenka, Ostapenko, Yastremska, healthier Vondrousova etc. then it could have been far worse. Should be a good chance to get that 1st RG win. Bertens will probably wait in R3, but I'm sure Jo would have snapped your hand off to lose in R3 before the draw, despite her recent exploits. I was getting concerned when watching the draw live as they placed the seeds in batches and the last batch was 25-32 and Yastremska was still lurking as a potential opponent, but she drew Carla SN instead.
Katie S still has a lot of work to do, but that would be an interesting potential R1 match...
So pleased that Katie S won again today and she has a real chance tomorrow I think - Kucova came through quickly in straight sets and therefore might be the fresher player, but it has to be a winnable match for Katie S, and Peter Too's info showing the head to head with a win for Katie S at Wimbledon must give her some encouragement. I am glad it is third on court; any extra rest will help Katie S I think.
There's so many FQR matches I'm interested in, it's hard to keep up. I do have the ES Player, but I'm watching on Bet365 as the picture isn't much different and it's so much easier to flick between the matches without seeing McDonalds and Bet at Home adverts all the time.
Pera has just beaten Juvan in a deciding set tie break to qualify. She was just behind Minella (last in) at the initial entry list on 29th April with a ranking of 105 and after winning an W80 last week, her current ranking of 83 made her the top seed, so it's nice that she has qualified, especially with the LL spots opening up as she would (arguably should) have been in anyway.
