Week 21 - French Open Qualifying, Paris - Clay

Kucova has the weakest second serve I have seen. Swan to try and hold for the set

Too many double faults at crucial times today from Katie.

Katie hit a volley standing in the baseline at 40-30 that was going out

Not if it was actually a foot fault. Did the TV cameras prove otherwise though?

I assumed seagull meant it was ridiculous from Katie, not the officials.

Shame for Katie that she couldn't get over the final hurdle, but she has done a lot better than I was expecting with those 2 great wins. That's her biggest points haul (30) since reaching the US Open FQR and I'm far more optimistic now with the grass season just around the corner.

So Jo can face:

Zhuk, Rybakina, Pera, Kucova, Lepchenko (beat Gramm... 6-2 6-2), Lottner, Paolini, Samsonova. With Zavatska/Gatto-Monticone, Boslova/Babos, Nara/Perrin, Blinkova/Glushko still to be determined. There'll also be 2 LLs to be considered.

Katie nearly got there, .. she might have been the favourite to win if she'd levelled the sets. All in all, a really positive week playing in a pressure cooker on clay. Valuable experience gained.
