At $10K level Emily's doubles form DID lead to improved singles accomplishments.
At the same time, whilst gobbling up countless $15K doubles finals and titles, she barely made a dent in $25K doubles draws.
Now, she is winning $25K doubles rounds, and this week, even making a final.
It is to be hoped that again, the doubles leads, and that Emily just needs time and exposure at the new level to again acclimatise and take the next step up.
Yes being a Sky sports scholar, who is expected to blog regularly, she no doubt feels a lot of pressure to perform, and as was clear here this week in the singles when she blew a commanding first set position, this can be very counter productive to her on court performance. I agree that I think she is capable of more, and if she can relax and become more confident, I would hope she will eventually start to get the singles results too.
Ironically, the reverse changes the ITF are bringing in from next month will mean that she will be able to accumulate WTA points again at W15 level. But even if she plays a tournament or too at that level for confidence, it would be a mistake for her progression to slip back into her comfort zone at that level. She needs to persevere with these weaker W25 tournaments she is finding, consolidate the doubles success, and see if she can notch those first singles wins...
