Tara possibly more likely to face the 18 year old Naito in the next round as she came through quals last week in Kurume W60 to lose narrowly to Marino in the final and is a big 2/9 fave to beat the seed - unless those 7 matches catch up with her, although the extra days rest should help a bit.
That was a good win for Hontama. Suspect she will have too much for Tara, unless Tara reproduces her A game again, as she did in the UK a little earlier this year.
R16: Tara MOORE (GBR) 487 vs Mai HONTAMA (JPN) [6] 355 (CH:348 April 19)
R16: Naomi BROADY (GBR) 405 vs Ayumi MIYAMOTO (JPN) 563=CH Born 2000 (JCH:17 Jan 17)
Tara and Emina Bektas have also won their first round doubles against their all Japanese opponents 6-4 6-2.
So both our pairs into the QF where they will both face further Japanese opponents - only 2 other pairs in the draw have foreign players, so it's a very strong local contingent.
QF:- Emina BEKTAS (USA) / Tara MOORE (GBR) [3] 504 (274+230) v Haruna ARAKAWA (JPN) Miyabi INOUE (JPN) 682 (374+308)
QF:- Naomi BROADY (GBR) / Ayaka OKUNO (JPN) [2] 494 (136+358) v Mai HONTAMA (JPN) Ayumi MIYAMOTO (JPN) 1244 (569 + 675)
The Japanese pair recovered from 8-2 down in the MTB to beat their WC opponents.
It didn't look to be going well for Tara, losing the 1st set 1-6. But after the first game in the second set, which she won on the second deuce, she went on to dominate the set returning the breadstick she got in the first set with a bagel. 6-0. In the third set and Tara takes the first two games. The third game they have been trading points and are currently on deuce #6, Tara having had 2 BP opportunities in this exchange.
Naomi has just taken the first set 6-4.
While I checked Naomi's score, Tara has had another 2 BPs and after 7 deuces and on her 4th BP she takes a *3-0 lead in the decider.

The momentum changed after that third game, and after that mammoth effort to break, Tara gave it straight back to love in the next game. The Japanese won the 5th game, and looked to be on her way to breaking Tara again in the 6th game. But from *0-30 down, Tara stopped the Japanese and took 4 straight points to hold. Another couple of service holds each and the Japanese 6th seed is serving to stay in the match. 5-3*
When I saw that Naomi was a break down and Tara was a break up and at match point, I didn't think Naomi would be the first to finish, but she wins 6-4 6-4.
Tara bagels then blows - sounds the stuff of nightmares to me, a full technicolour horror show.
Naomi, positive, but a long way from the top 200.
