RE: Week 21 - ITF (W25) - Goyang, Korea - Hard

Maia 1 set all after 2 hrs 45 min - will be another long one.

More breaks than holds so far - Maia has taken 8/22 bp, her opponent 8/12 - two points in the total points diff.

Lee, who beat Alicia in that epic earlier in the week, is currently a break up in the deciding set against the Chinese top see. Winner of that plays Maia.

Wow, Maia's match was 3hrs 43mins! There was some comment about EWS playing the last match of the season last week i think - well her match was not as long as this one was, so think Maia and Anastasia take that record now!

Duplicated - but after all that time, it's probably what Maia deserves wink

That match I mentioned is an absolute break fest. Lee is *3-2, but all 5 games this set have been breaks, and there's been so many throughout. The match is currently over 2 and a half hours and both of those have had long previous matches, so Maia might actually be fresher, particularly if it's Lee.

Edit - the top seed Zhang ended up winning that 7-5 in the decider in 3 hr 10, so that's who Maia will play. She also had a 2 hr 41 3 set match earlier in the week.

Just saw the odds are pretty much 50/50, Maia a tiny favourite at 4/5, but both odds on.

I was just having a quick look at Zhang's record on OER and 100 of her 238 points were from (pretty weak) W25 wins at the end of May and very early July, so without those, she would be well outside the top 300 - she's obviously earned them, but it's not as if she's in great recent form and hypothetically, if the rankings were say 10 months instead of 12, it would look different. She's actually 338 in the race which is well below Maia, although she does have a few notable wins this past year, so 50/50 looks about right.

Both were on court a long time today, and Maia actually finished a couple of hours sooner, so that shouldn't really make much difference and it would be great if she could add those extra 12 points and reach another ITF final.

In the first SF (3) Natalija Kostic (SRB) beat Jennifer Elie (USA) by 4-6 6-0 7-6(1)

Looks fluctuating, that's not telling half if it. In the first set Kostic was *3-1 up and ended up losing it 4-6. In the 2nd set Kostic romped through 6-0 for the loss of only 3 points and won the last 18! In the 3rd set Elie was *5-2 up and had 3 MPs in all before it got back to parity and on into a TB which Kostic ran away with.

And now for Maia ...
