Now 3-3* final set.

Yes, I had a feeling that 6th game where she failed to go 4-2 up in the final set despite the 5 GPs might signal a change in momentum, and it effectively did in the end. After then, Lissey was always playing catch up. A pity. I thought she would win this match

Here's the final round up summary of the first round. Rankings said we should have two wins, but just the one in the end after Lissey's +3hrs loss. She'll be feeling doubly sore this evening, as she will feel for sure she should have won this match in two sets, never mind three.. but will just have to pick up and go again now.

R32: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) 474 lost to Eunhye LEE (KOR) [WC] UNR/491 (CH:821 Sept 18) 19yrs (JCH:113 Jan 17) 6-7(5) 6-3 5-7
R32: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [4] 322 beat Se-Hyun KIM (KOR) [WC] UNR/560 (CH:1010 June 18) 6-2 6-2

R16: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [4] 322 vs Yeong Won JEONG (KOR) [WC] UNR/364 (CH:832)

In the doubles, Maia and Cengiz are the 2nd Brit+ pair to lose to Chang and Fanning in 2 weeks in the doubles, going down 6-2 3-6 6-10

So just Maia left in the singles now, and with that 2nd round draw, hope she keeps going longer.

I think there's a bit of a typo in the scores.

Another comfortable victory for Maia. Possibly 6th seed Russian, Gasanova next, who's a set up at the moment.

R16: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [4] 322 defeated Yeong Won JEONG (KOR) [WC] UNR/364 (CH:832) 6-1 6-1

Good stuff, that's Maia so far up to 151 points in the post French Open 10/06 rankings. That would take her to around her CH 307.

And still got chances both here, next week in Korea and at Surbiton to push that ranking higher.

Noting the addicts post of longest matches in last week's Obidos thread, there have been a number of long matches here. Lissey's match yesterday was 3hr 31min match in Korea yesterday, but that was only the second longest match there yesterday. Cabaj Awad and a local WC were on court for 3hr 36min. There was also a 3hr 21min match to complete a hat-trick of long matches in Korea yesterday. And for good measure, Maia's next opponent was on court for 3hrs 21mins today. I wonder what the record for the number of 3hr 20min+ matches in one event is.

Wow, they are having some long matches. All are longer than the longest WTA match so far this year.
