I'm surprised how many are playing the week before Surbiton, especially in the far east. I know most would only be WC candidates and not likely to go deep were they to get a WC, but still...

Another dash from one side of the world to the other for Katy?

Also, to note, Heather is in doubles in the French Open with her GS partner Tatjana Maria. I hadn't realised they haven't played together in anything other than the four GS's since before last year's FO.

Katy D is in the Spain draw not far east, so already back in Europe. Mandy C is an alt in that draw too, and may get in with further withdrawals.

In Korea it is really only Maia that might have any chance of playing Surbiton, and that might be slim. She needs points so would hope she will stay in Korea where she would be seeded.

It'll be interesting seeing the initial Surbiton field tomorrow. Obviously it will look different when withdrawals and automatic RG withdrawals are taken into account, but it'll be a good gauge. Just looking at last year as a guide and Stollar got in directly at 223 and Fourlis was Q1 at 224. We had 8 in the main draw last year - Katie B, Gabi, Harriet and Katy (just) directly and then Heather (RG situation), Katie S, Jodie and Tara as the 4 MDWCs. If it's similar this year then (assuming they all want to play) Heather, Harriet and Katie S (with her 50 Monzon points on) should be in directly and then you'd probably think Katy, Jodie and maybe Naiktha would be 3 of the 4 MDWCs.

There were 12 Brits in Qs and it looks like the final Q cut off was Gilchrist at 840, but not sure if she sneaked in as an alt being based in the UK. Eden, Sam, Emily App, SBG, Alicia, Freya and EWS all got in Qs directly with Vic, Ella, A Pitak, Lillian M and Nell getting the 5 QWCs. Amazingly (or shockingly), Chloe Compson could be in Q contention this year after withdrawals with her circa 860 ranking.

I have a feeling Mandy C might look to play on grass this year. She's more likely to get into qualifying in some tournaments in the UK through QWCs than by staying in Europe. And the last few weeks she has not been playing on clay - in Obidos last two weeks, and as noted above the Spanish hard court event is the only one she is till in the entry list this week 22.

Dom & Bopanna choosing to split and play with random singles players when they would have been seeded playing together.

Its true but the dom and bopanna pairing didn't click at all really , at least on clay, so chances are they wouldn't have lived up to a seeding.

Jodie and Katy out of Spain W25 main draw. Eden and Tara out of Qs. Sam is the sole GB remainer as it stands.

It should be mentioned that a lot of our top male players are playing the Tier 1 North Oxford Grass British Tour event this week:

Men

Lloyd Glasspool
Evan Hoyt
Ryan P
Andy Watson
Ben Jones

Special mention to Brandon Murphy too.

And for the talented junior followers, watch out for Jack P-J (2003) and, new fave, real tiddler, Yujiro Onuma (2004) (tx again the Londontennistubes). Both came through qualis so well done to them.

In the women, the field isn't so deep, with Alice Gillan and Amelia Rajecki as the top two seeds.
