Well done Mandy. Good week for Em and I hope she's got enough left for the doubles later, looks like she ran out of gas.

Great to see Mandy taking her opportunity this week. Quicker she's up into the top 400 again the better.

QF: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) [Q] UNR/48 def WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) [Q] 524 6-1 3-6 6-1

Certainly looks like the tank was empty in the final set. Mandy won 18 of the last 21 points

Grey Nicolls have given Emily+ a walkover into the doubles final.

I expected Ozgen to win easily today, so congratulations to Emily. She's had a great fortnight.

Amanda's up to 601 in the live rankings, and her 19 points puts this among the top 5 weeks of her career.

SF opponent Parrizas-Diaz looks to be in great form, especially when not playing Mariam Bolkvadze (who has inflicted 3 of her 7 losses this year).

Well Emily gets a let-off, as she gets a walkover in the doubles. And a walkover in the other semifinal as well.

SF:- Sofia SHAPATAVA (GEO) / Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) 546 (224+322) [3] "defeated" Sarah Beth GREY (GBR) / Olivia NICHOLLS (GBR) 383 (192+291) [1] WALKOVER

F:- Sofia SHAPATAVA (GEO) / Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) 546 (224+322) [3] v Martina COLMEGNA (ITA) / Nuria PARRIZAS-DIAZ (SPA) 655 (240+415) [4]

Any knowledge on why Beth and Olivia have withdrawn? That's rather disappointing to hear, especially when Olivia is still making her comeback from her lengthy injury break.

Mandy's next opponent, Parrizas-Diaz is 27, but has just reached her CH this month, so seems to be doing some late developing. Mandy will certainly not be favourite for this match, but a good test and a free hit for her.

Out of interest have just looked at the Spanish hard court entry list for Week 22, where Mandy is currently 4th on the ITF Reserved Alt list, and 11th on the real Alt list. Her current live ranking for the week after next of around 601 as noted above, would have Mandy as 1st on the Alt list. Sam Murray is currently last on the qual list with WR5 70.

SF: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) [Q] UNR/48 vs PARRIZAS-DIAZ, Nuria (ESP) [4] 272 (CH:270 May 19)

I know at Bolton, Olivia said she was she not fully over the injury, but equally Beth has not played much and has struggled later in the match.

First set gone 2-6. Not surprising but a good test for Mandy. Parrizas-Diaz is around the level Mandy was at when she originally got injured a couple of years ago now.

Just the one hold in the first set, but she won at least a couple of points in every game, so the score doesn't flatter her.

Mandy lost comfortably enough in the end. Still it is a week that she will remember fondly and marks the start of her real comeback, especially when she sees the WTA ranking of around 600 against her name in 10 days time. She is now 10th alt for the Spanish hard court W25 in two weeks time (well, week after next). The tournament is just outside Barcelona where I believe she is based (trains a lot there anyway), so suspect that if she turns up, she will get a QWC if necessary and will play.

SF: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) [Q] UNR/48 lost to PARRIZAS-DIAZ, Nuria (ESP) [4] 272 (CH:270 May 19) 2-6 4-6
