Week 20 - ITF (W60+H) La Bisbal D'Emporda, Spain Clay

To clarify, in the above context we meant women qualifiers don't get WTA MD points until they win a match, they just get their points from qualifying.

Women players who avoid qualifying by direct ranking entry or WC do indeed get WTA ranking points without having to win a round. For all WTA ranking events ie. 25K and above, they get WTA ranking counters 'just' for starting a R1 match.

Edit: essentially what Michael got in first with

Not going quite so well for Naiktha today. 0-6. Lot's of games going to 40, but hopefully she can get a few games on the board in the 2nd set.

Wow, insurance break for Bains and she'll have 2 chances to serve it out. *5-2 final set.

And to continue a brilliant day for the British women, Naiktha serves it out to 15 to win 0-6 6-4 6-2. What a comeback, what a win. Fantastic.

So Naiktha now on 241 points and live ranked 235. She plays Gorgodze in the QF who beat the 2nd seed Jorovic earlier.

She's surely got to be putting herself into contention for a Surbiton MDWC, assuming she wants to play and doesn't make the direct entry cut.

Great comeback - I must admit I'd written this one off and hadn't checked the score since the first set. Perhaps I should kepp away more often !

That takes Naiktha above Katie Swan on guaranteed points for Wimbledon wild card selection week.

If you went to the Fed Cup in Bath and watched matches that didn't involve GB then you could have seen alot of Gorgodze.Seems to have been around for a while but not close to top 100.

It certainly does. Though even if Naiktha is ahead of Katie in the relevant Monday's rankings I still think Katie more likely to get a MD WC.

Hopefully Heather is this week on her way to making the Wimbledon MD entry list and freeing up a MD WC, hopefully for an extra Brit.

I think that's right too. I think people who've been representing the UK the whole time should get priority over those at a similar level but who've just switched, for at least the first year.
