Fran lost 2-6 5-7. Shame she wasn't able to take it into a decider from the position she was in, but she did really well to get into that position in the first place against a current top 100 player. A positive week for her.
Yes improved performances and marginal gains. Fran's win over Buyukakcay WR 247 was a great win, and that display against Minella in the 2nd set should give her some much needed confidence too.
A nice top 200 win and her biggest points haul for a while, certainly since her switch and great timing as well.
The 14 points thus far (net gain of 9) should see her up to around a CH of 237. Another Spaniard next (and fellow nationality switcher), 21 year old 8th seed Aliona Bolsova who has been playing qualifying and main draws of big WTA clay events recently, and competing well, so will be tough, but it's a been great return so far whatever happens.

No, in the WTA rankings, you don't get that extra 1 pt if you lost first round, Ace. You just get your qualifying points.
Well I never knew that, and feel a bit silly for using that emoji. . Even for W25 events?
Yes. For any women's event with WTA points, MD points don't get added until you win a MD match. For Slams it would just be 40, not 40 + 10.
It's part of the habit of the ATP and WTA to do so many ranking things differently as if just to confuse.
I disagree about the WTA, that's the whole point about Chloe Compson, she bought/negotiated (we think) 3 w25 MDWCs, without winning a match at that level and now has a WTA ranking of 850 or thereabouts and is now able to use it to get into W15 qualifying.
Chloe was a direct entrant into the W25 MDs, and so got 1pt each time for being in the draw, even though she lost each match.
The difference with being a qualifier in the MD of a W25 is that if you lose in the first round you just get your 1 pt for qualifying. You don't get 1pt for qualifying + 1 pt for being in the MD.
In the ATP you get both - you get your points for qualifying + your points for being in the MD first round, even if you lost in that round. In Challenger events the ATP gets round this simply by awarding 0 pts for being in the MD first round.
