Naiktha now gets her 5 pts for qualifying - but as noted earlier her two minimum points counters are both 5 pts already, so she needs a MD win too to be in positive points territory for the week. Fran is +2 with her QR1 win.
FQR: BAINS, Naiktha (GBR) [q1] 246 beat GAMIZ, Andrea (VEN) [q8] 358 (CH:244 April 18) 6-4 6-3

It'll be 6 and net gain with the extra point for losing in R1 , but yes, if she really wants to make any significant difference and boost her ranking with the grass court season coming up, and from her POV, potentially pass Katie S in the rankings (although she'd still probably be behind her in the Notts/Eastbourne MDWC pecking order), then she will indeed need a R1 win.
I'd definitely take the lesser known WC or Rodionova, hopefully she avoids the 2 seeds and Lisicki and GGP would be reasonably fair for this level, but not the easiest.
No, in the WTA rankings, you don't get that extra 1 pt if you lost first round, Ace. You just get your qualifying points.
Well I never knew that, and feel a bit silly for using that emoji. . Even for W25 events?
Just saw that you don't for the 25s either. That's crazy, the amount of rankings, results and charts I'll have studied over the past couple of years and didn't even realise that.
I suppose if nothing else, it would keep a 5 point counter in reserve as 3 of the 5 she has, either as a counter or non counter, expire in 2019, so this would stay on her record longer, but if she is wanting to push on further, then she's shouldn't really be concerning herself with 5 pointers.

Fran has started her FQR match. She recovered an early break, but immediately gave it back again. 2-3*
5-4*
Very encouraging; Despite recent softeness of form, Cagla still has WTA International level clay titles. Fran holding her on the surface is useful groundwork.
