Fran could really do with some points. It's a long time since she's accrued anything more than 1 pointers. Glasgow in Feb is her only MD win in a W25 or higher so far this year. Here she will potentially face the q2 seed, Buyukakcay in the FQR, but even a QR1 win would be positive. It's been a surprisingly dismal year for her so far. Having made the GB top 10 end of last year, but then being ejected with the new points system, she's down at 14th at the moment and not looking like getting back there anytime soon.

Naiktha gets a walkover in her Q1 match against the WC. Must have been injured in the warmup (or overnight).

If you type Naiktha Bains' name into Google, it has her name greyed out as if she retired, but ITF live scores and the ITF draw page have her advancing, so I'm sure that's right - still scarred from that Eden situation last week ha. The FQR opponent will be either 8th seed Gamiz or the Greek girl who beat Jodie last week - Gamiz has just broken to take the first set 6-4.

It's 8th seed Gamiz for Naiktha who beat that Papamichail in straight sets. It doesn't really matter because she's just really looking for more than 5 points to add to her tally and she has a few 5 point counters in reserve, but out of curiosity, if Naiktha loses, does she get those 3 points for that walkover 'win'?

From the ITF Rulebook - she won't get points for a walkover win in the first round

"If a player or team receives a walkover in the 1st round, and there is no Alternate or Lucky Loser to take the place in the draw, or if a player or team receives a walkover in a subsequent round without having yet played a match, the player or team will receive ranking points from the round preceding her/their elimination."

In English - no.

Haha, thanks both, thought that was the case.

Good anyway for Naiktha as 3 points isn't much use for her and he'll get rest, but had say Fran hypothetically been the lowest ranked Q seed and faced that WC in Q1, it would have probably been more worth her while playing.

So there's been 6 breaks in the 7 games in Naiktha's match, and 5 of those have been to 15, love, love, 15 and 15. *3-4

Yep, Gamiz ended Naiktha's 8 game winning streak, but still in a great position.

Main draw is out and very much a mixed bag, should Naiktha (and Fran) advance.

Don't want to count chickens too soon, but the main draw options are:

1) Minella
3) Voegele
Garcia Perez
WC Lisicki
Ar Rodionova
WC Alvarez
