Well Naomi has finally crept over the line, but she certainly made a meal of it. She was aided by the fact her opponent out double faulted her 9:12. Naomi did at least have 10 aces.
Heather has Emina Bektas next, Tara's doubles partner, and Naomi gets Jovana Jaksic, who put out Jamie Loeb, the 6th seed, in the first round. Naomi and Jaksic have a big H2H, but Naomi will do well to continue her winning trend.
R16: Heather WATSON (GBR) [1] 110 vs Emina BEKTAS (USA) 355 (CH:234 Sept 17) R16: Naomi BROADY (GBR) 372 vs Jovana JAKSIC (SRB) 278 (CH:102 May 14)
That's a relief, went to sleep thinking that would likely be that after dropping the first set. I see she was broken to love immediately in the second set and then it was 2-2, so Hev won 10 games straight.
A lot will depend on what happens in Trnava over the next couple of days, but by my reckoning, lose to Bektas = Wimbledon WC, beat Bektas but lose QF = likely WC, but would be a high alt, reach the SF = likely to get in directly.
When's the cut of date for the Wimbledon main draw? I see Heather has 30 points coming off at the end of May so won't she need to make those up too?
This is the last week to point score as they use the coming Monday's rankings. She's up to 105 in the live rankings, now above Zhu and Kr Pliskova (who can't add to their tallies), but she'll pretty much have to beat Bektas to stand any chance (as there'll be a few people using PR). There's also people around her competing, mainly in the Slovak W100 event, so she really could do with getting into the SFs.

Ten players in Trnava from LR100 down who in theory could finish ahead of Heather, although of course they will soon eliminate each other. From Jorovic at LR101 on 616 points down to Blinkova at LR127 on 477 points. It'll be clearer after they play the first round today.
