Week 20 - ATP Masters 1000 - Internazionali BNL d'Italia, Rome (clay) - doubles

Separate thread again justified by the number of Brits in the draw, I feel:

L32:  Guido Pella & Diego Schwartzman (ARG/ARG) CR 236 (132+106) vs Rajeev Ram (USA) & Joe Salisbury CR 41 (21+20)  bleh

L32:  (3) Juan Sebastián Cabal & Robert Farah (COL/COL) CR 20 (10+10) vs Rohan Bopanna (IND) & Dominic Inglot CR 73 (42+31)  bleh

L32:  Matteo Berrettini & Fabio Fognini (ITA/ITA) CR 214 (129+95) vs Kyle Edmund & Neal Skupski CR 269 (236+32)  bleh

L32:  Jérémy Chardy & David Goffin (FRA/BEL) CR 284 (63+221) vs (2) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 17 (9+8)

I haven't checked this myself, but saw this on twitter:-

Playing doubles in Rome - Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, Boran Coric, Denis Shapovalov, Frances Tiafoe, Fabio Fognini, David Goffin, Karen Khachanov, Juan Martin Del Potro, and Diego Schwartzman

So many sad(?) faces there SC! Including one for Joe's match when actually Joe & partner are higher ranked. I can only assume its because they are facing Argentineans on clay. Plenty of singles players in the doubles draw this time too...

Might be worth posting the CR used for entries - as many are using their singles ranking.

The only player - in my opinion who is a bit confuse on that list is Dimitrov given the fact that for a while he has been withdrawing from tournaments left right & centre this year. Everyone else can either play doubles, are wanting matches (often from injury/poor form) or in Fog's case, Italian (which is the same as giving British players a chance in our tournaments)

I noticed Jack sock isnt playing any of these clay events, given he is number 2 in world doubles. Is he injured or taking time out ?

Injured. Think it was a finger injury.

RE: Goffin, he's doing Chardy a favour as Chardy was meant to be playing with Mahut but Mahut is injured.

Disappointing loss. To be honest, Kyle and Neal look like most likely winners from the others, although perhaps Joe and Rajeev will overcome Schwartzmann playing with a different partner.

Hoping we pull off 2 wins from the others, probably only one though...

At 4-2 down:

Lee @yelnats_eel

Soares not happy with the court conditions, he's told by the umpire they've been playing with it how it is so far so they're not going to stop now.

Rome can be very dusty and less consistent than other clay events presumably that's what bruno means. He needn't worry as he wont be playing here any more this year.

With Wimbly SF points to come off, this may be Dom's last Masters for a while. Or maybe not...
