Venus can't run. As the commentators are saying, she's clearly not fit. The games Venus got back at the start of the 2nd set are largely because of Jo error's... as soon as Jo places the ball wider, or drops it short, Venus is not running at all.
Yes, great for Jo. Her first Premier QF on clay. Venus has a knee injury that's affecting her push off and ability to stop too. Her service speed was down too, but a great day for JoKo nevertheless.
R16: Joanna KONTA (GBR) 42 beat Venus WILLIAMS (USA) 50 (CH:1 Feb 2002) 6-2 6-4
Quite amazing.
This being a Premier 5, not a Premier, these are very good points, more than covering her Nottingham Final points from last year.
She's more or less covered her entire grass - generally considered a strong surface for her - 2018 points with her exploits on the dirt thus far in 2019. Any onw see that coming 6 weeks ago?

Unfortunately, the aim was to cover the 105 points from Rome from last year, which she has done in style - the grass court points will still have to be covered.

Point still holds: Jo's 2019 clay points to date ~= to her 2018 grass points total. No one would've predicted that (or indeed, no one did).

Been out for the day and seen tbe wonderful news that Jo has reached the q/f in Rome. More clay court main draw wins this year than in whole career before that. Didn't see anything like that happening when Yan Wang had 3 match points in 1St round in Rabat.
Great to see, even if Venus was clearly indisposed today.
When it was being said a little while ago that we had no women around that looked like possibly making the top 20 ( think it was 20 anyway well at least older than just maybe Emma and she's just so early in her career, I did say I wouldn't discount Jo getting back there. Been there and done that and more ( neither would I actually discount everyone else given where Jo came from in her original big rise ).
Obviously a fair bit to go yet but looking back on a good path just now, and on the dirt. Pleased for her
