That's an impressive result - I didn't really expect Jo to defend her points here from last year, but she's getting better with every match.

I'm just worried as she's playing Venus in little over an hour - talk about quick turnaround!

Just tuning in, missed the first game but Bradnam and Durie are going on about Venus and 'what's going on' etc. Possibly injured.

Jo broke in the opening game 3-1*
Not watching, only livescoring.

Apparently Venus was hardly moving in the first couple of games, including the immediate break, but since then she's held to love twice. The comms were thinking Venus might retire early on, but seems back to normal now.

First set to Jo 6-2 and a break up already in the second *1-0

Jo flying now, but is currently being helped by Venus. 6-2 *1-0

Halep lost earlier to Vondrousova, so the winner of this plays either Kasatkina or Vondrousova in the next round (they play soon), both very good young players, even if Kasatkina has generally been out of form this year (was about 100 in the race), and both might be favourite to advance further, particularly Marketa V, but avoiding Halep on Rome clay would be an unexpected boost, if Jo comes through this.
