2019 Grass Court Season Entry Lists

Working ok now, took a little longer for some reason ! Thanks.

Mens and womens strong but no brits obviously due to Queensland brum. Guess we will get wild cards of course.

My dad and I going to finals so although I dont anticipate any Brits, it should be good standard

Gibbs may or may not have recovered in time from her cancer treatment. I think she was hoping to play Wimbledon.

Do we know the ladies Surbiton wildcards yet?

Nicole Gibbs has a had a bad time with her op and complications afterwards. She said she still hopes to make it for Wimbledon, but didn't come across as being more than a just a hope.

No nothing yet. LTA website now just confirming the participation of Heather, Van Uytvanck, defending champion Riske, and Tatjana Maria.

Surbiton QWC for Emily? Just 4 spots this year and there's many higher ranked. I guess she could mean doubles. Thought we'd know all the WCs by now, but looks like we'll have to wait until the Q draw tomorrow.

Emily is always one of the favoured ones by the LTA, and is reasonably local to Surbiton, so I would imagine it quite likely she has a quali wildcard.

In the absence of women's WCs being announced lets play a guessing game. Do we really think the women's MDWCs for Surbiton will go to anyone other than Naiktha, Katy, Jodie and Maia? Or would a junior take one of them? For qualifying usually a fair few Brits get in because of late withdrawals and many of the foreigner alts, understandably, not turning up. It's difficult to see there being many late withdrawals this year. I think there are only 2 in the main draw that are still in RG, although there are a couple more who have probably gone deeper than expected and would prefer some more time before their next tournament. So that leaves a lot of choice for the QWCs and I'm not sure who will be the lucky ones. Maybe Naomi (if needed), Eden, Ella and, since she has tweeted, Emily App? Sam deserves a QWC after recent performances, but maybe that will come in Manchester. Will Freya still be in favour despite her recent results? Or could any of those that performed well in North Oxford get QWCs?

For the qualis, I think there's got to be at least one or two juniors. It seems to be the LTA Performance's main focus. I think that recently-ex-juniors are also favoured in this (i.e. Emily App).

So I'm expecting at least Vic Allen or Matilda. Probably more. I think the Pitaks will get a doubles card.

Last year, the quali wildcards were Nell Miller, Ola Pitak, Lilly Mould, Vic Allen and Ella Taylor (and Kim Birrell)

Yes, I agree those are probably the MDWCs, RS. Emma Raducanu has not entered any of the 100k tournaments, so is not going to get WCs, I assume. For the qualifier WCs, the list is long. Even Mandy is still on the alt list for Surbiton. But so is Vic Allen, and I can see her getting a QWC. And I'd certainly love Sam too... there is also Lissey and Tara and... Ok, so they might not give to many of the oldies, but there are plenty of deserving people in there. And yes ironically, Emily App would be one of the least deserving, having not yet won that MD W25 match yet... Keep her to doubles only, where I would definitely ensure EWS plays, and probably Sam too, if no QWC.

I would have included Vic Allen as a QWC, but she has only 2 ITF WCs left having received a WC in every GB tournament so far this year. I think she may get a QWC in Nottingham to save at least one of those ITF WCs for the summer.

GCSEs appear to finish on the 19-21 June depending on the exam board, so I wouldn't expect Emma back before then.

Good point about Vic. But she does seem to like Surbiton (and comes from the south-east, doesn't she?)

There's a good chance that Amelia Rajecki gets one too - having just won the Tier 1 event and will be playing in the quali WC play-offs, and still a junior. Although she also has already had a couple, hasn't she?

I was wondering about the US college players (Nell Miller played a lights out match last year)...... Georgie Axon always used to be a favourite but hasn't been a star at college from what I know.

I was hoping Eden Richardson might turn up somewhere? And maybe Emily Arb?

Interesting list of names, and quite a poser. There are a few players who seem to be in good form right now and I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of Sam, EWS and Lissey get a QWC, although Tara's form has been erratic and might rule her out. But perhaps Sam will get one in Manchester - Emily is back in London. If Eden and Beth play league tennis in France today, I would assume they are not in the picture. Not sure when Emma R will be back competing after finishing her GCSE's.

Not certain about Eden Richardson, but Emily Arbuthnot is still in Stanford.

Thing is last year we had 12 GB players in the larger Q field, this year we'll be lucky to have anyone in outside the 4 QWCs - Naomi possibly, but there'll need to be a huge amount of withdrawals for anyone else to sneak in directly.

As for the MDWCs, I'd be surprised if it's anyone outside the 4 Brits that RS mentioned. I had heard some people mention Lisicki, but I doubt that will happen - they'd have almost certainly put out a press release in advance if they were giving her one, otherwise there'd be absolutely no point of it at all. Mind, she hasn't won a match this year despite all the WCs she has had, so as popular as she is/was in the UK (me included), it would be a bit of a shame if she got one.
