Jodie would have actually been seeded 6 here had they used this weeks rankings, but for her, unless there is an unknown banana skin in the Q draw, she has got a fairly kind path. In line to potentially play 8th seed Strakhova in R2, who is now ranked around 303, not in great form and lost 3 and 1 to Naiktha the other week, or Spaniard Hoste-Ferrer who Eden put out in that marathon W60 Q MTB last week, so you'd like to think she'd be favourite to make the QF. She could have a Ponchet rematch should they both make the QF, who like last week, is the 2nd seed again.
Very tough for Emily against the person who pushed Katy so close 2 days ago, and Gabi could also have had far better as Bucsa made the SF of the W60 last week. She could maybe take some hope that Eden beat her in Obidos a few weeks ago, but their recent form directly coming into this event could hardly be more contrasting.
Way too many DFs for Gabi, already 6 in just two service games. And way too many BPs against her, now 7 in all and the last she was broken back on, after having had two GPs earlier. This looks like being a roller coaster ride...
Ms Taylor cold just use some luck.
Any luck.
Not even good luck.
Just a normal amount of average luck.
She has already had far more than her fair share of tennis misfortune.
Hope she can keep her head up through the latest setbacks, and really get a chance to show her potential over a prolonged and sustained run someday soon.
A lot of potential.
We seem to lose these types pretty often, one way or another: Stoop, Cavaday, Dean etc
Yes, sadly Gabi's star seems to be continuing to wane this year. Even Naomi has found one or two wins lately. Whatever this injury niggle is, seems it will require more than a week's rest, so suspect we won't see much of Gabi now till the grass season, but like Katie B, hope she will be back by then. Was never very clear why Gabi entered the two Italian clay events, rather than staying in Spain, and the hard court they had last week too.
Very disappointing ... after those first two games and then 40-30 up in the third, there was a brief flicker that this might be a better week for Gabi. Very quickly extinguished though. I was shocked to see how quickly the end came after that, and the manner of it too.

Its Despina Papamichail in R1 for Jodie. The Greek is 482 and has had some success on the W15 scene this year, but I'd like to think she should be fine.
