Another match with #2 seed Bolkvadze up next for EWS. The top 6 seeds have all made the QF and it's only the #7 and #8 seeds who have gone and they were eliminated by EWS and Mandy respectively.
Great for EWS to win too matches, and a good go from Mandy, if she has fallen just short of the 9 points she needed to confirm her WTA ranking. Still she is up to 4th on the alt list for here next week, so if she can get into qualifying again and make the MD then she will finally have her ranking back again. Don't expect Emily's run to continue either as she plays her occasional doubles partner (Sofia, her main current partner also being Georgian, but 9 pts on top of Emily's total current tally of 38 will be extremely welcome.
R16: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) [Q] UNR lost to Susan BANDECCHI (SUI) 401=CH 5-7 3-6
R16: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 524 beat Andrea KA (CAM) [WC] UNR/376 (CH:560) 6-1 7-5
But this is impressive from Emily, much better than I was expecting. She's now a break up in the second set 3-6 *4-3.
And there is a MTO at *4-3 40-15. I'm assuming its Mariam. For a British based player, I'd be happy if some of our own players had progressed as she has over the last 6-9 months, but taking a MTO in the middle of a game is not a good sign.
