I was expecting Katy to have been a seed, but I guess with the time difference, they have used last week's rankings. Tough R1 draw for her, as RS says, Inglis did really well last week and the past 6 weeks in general in a number of W25 events and, like Katy, has really improved her ranking recently. She was originally 3rd on the Alt list so needed a withdrawal and that looks like 2nd Alt Inoue, so she has just managed to avoid the double Q matches.
A shame for Tara, she was the clear betting fave there - hopefully it's not a case of back to normality after a surprise run at Bolton.
Ah well, I guess it'll come in handy for next week then. Good news that she plays on the Wednesday as that does level the playing field up a bit.
I see if Katy beats Inglis, she'll be in line to face either 3rd seed Shimizu or 18 year old Naito in the next round. For some reason, Naito sounds very familiar and I'm sure I've looked at her ITF profile as if one of our players have played or were due to play her recently, but I can't find any reference to it in her recent results. Strange.
Edit - must have been last week as she was a WC and was due to face a Q, which could have been Naomi, and I must have been checking her credentials. Nothing to see here.

Personally I'm not that surprised to see Katy in the draw. She loves everything about the tennis lifestyle - playing, travelling, socialising and especially winning, so I was pretty sure that if she could physically make it to Japan in time she wouldn't want to miss out. I suspect she'll be wanting to use the opportunity these 60Ks will give her to try and close the gap on Harriet and Katie who have raced up the rankings past her in recent years. Good luck to her - I'd love to see her break into the top 200 this summer.

Great to see Naomi getting a win at last - Namigata was a pretty decent player at her peak, and her experience means it can't have been easy - her serve stats will give her great confidence, which she desperately needs at the moment.
Yes, it is great to see Naomi show a bit more confidence again... and she certainly needs this win, and another one still just to make up for the points she is losing this week! But it is a right step, and with the grass court season coming up, let's hope for a few more still too.
Heather is exactly the same odds as she was last week, 2/7 (Hev) vs 5/2, so hopefully that's not a bad omen - interestingly the opponent Sakatsume lost 2 and 4 to Omae (Heather's conqueror last week) a couple of months ago.
A win for Heather 6-2 6-1. Not as straight forward as it looks as her serving stats aren't great and there were some long games. Katy went from 3-0 to 3-4 in the first set and retired.
