That's very unlucky for Fran but better for Gabi this time around.

An awful first set start for Gabi. She lost it 3-6. Now this match maybe on clay, but still its a gimme for Gabi. She also looks like she is going to go an immediate break down in the second set. Lose this, and it does start to raise serious concerns as to where she and her game are at... disbelief

This is a disaster for Gabi. Now a break down second set and losing 3-6 0-3
Her serving is failing her for a start - 6 DFs, only 43% of first serves won and 33% second serves. She's also had just 2 BP opportunities the whole match, and taken just one. This against a player whose WTA CH is 846.

And Gabi's retired... which frankly I'm relieved by. I'd rather there was an injury behind that scoreline than just a performance collapse. But now hope she can recover fully soon.. So far Gabi's season has sadly only hit new lows compared with last year.

Oh dear. This is as bad as Heather's loss earlier today. So depressing when your favourite players hit such dreadful form. I really hope they can both recover and come back strong for the summer but I can't say I'm feeling too optimistic just now.

It really is sad to see. It does seem strange hoping it's injury / unwell related, but career/progression-wise, it is less concerning than getting well beaten, fully fit, to that calibre of opponent. W

I was just looking through her results and a year ago to the day (well Weds 2nd May) she beat Lykina in Japan, in her first event back since all her Aussie success, to set up an all Brit clash with (pre-grass) Dart the next day. I remember being surprised to wake up to see Harriet had beaten her in straight sets, but it's safe to say, it's largely been downhill since then and while she was ranked around 50 places higher than Harriet that day, she's now 150+ lower - that's quite a contrast in respective fortunes and it wouldn't be a 'surprise' these days.

Fran won the next 5 points to take the second set. 6-3 6-7(3).

Looks like these 2 are evenly matches, judging by last week and 84-79 (NB) points in this match.

That's a shame, hopefully nothing too serious. It went from (Naiktha on left) 1-0* to 1-2* to 3-2* (15-15) in the decider at the point of retirement. Must have done something in that 6th game.

Naiktha takes the first set 6-4. Just realised there was no results round up / schedule. Naiktha playing 32 year old Swiss player Lisa Sabino ranked 402 with a CH of 315 10 years ago.

I wish the ITF would change Naiktha's flag - I keep scrolling past her match.
Perhaps not quite as comfortable a win as the score suggests, as there were several breaks on both sides.
