7th seed Melnikova, who has barely played since retiring against Katy earlier in the year, lost to a local qualifier, Carrasco, ranked 499 and that is who Katy plays next. Carrasco played in both recent GB W25 events and didn't do much of note in either. Can't take anything for granted these days, but that's a really good opportunity to reach a W60 QF.

Good to see Katy back on court and winning. Seems to have been a bit of a stop-start year, and she needs to get back in the groove and picking up points.
So it's either the feisty Frenchwoman Reix (327) or Estrella Cabeza Candela (378) up next for Jodie - they play tomorrow. Both are the wrong side of 30 (30 and 32) and neither are in great form. Candela has lost her last 5 matches stretching back to late October, whereas Reix has lost her last 3 stretching back to late February and is now at her lowest ranking since 2015 - she's always been ranked somewhere between 200-299 for the past 4 years. Big opportunity to go further.
It's Spanish opposition as well for Jodie tomorrow as Reix retired at 2-2, so Cabeza Candela advances. This will technically count as a win for her as the opponent started the match, but she's not won a proper match for a long while, so hopefully that continues tomorrow (although obviously not Jodie retiring early...)
Thought it was originally for Jodie because she had just been broken and people came up to her first (but just to explain), but it was for the oppondnt and quite a long one as well.
I'll take that. A nice 15 points in the bag and now is where the points really get more significant - win her next match and she basically matches her India and Bolton final points-wise.
Probably going to face 5th seed Kostova next (about to serve for the match), who while isn't in the top 200, is in and around the Wimbledon Q cut off mark (254), so it would be another higher ranked scalp if she can pull it off.
