Week 18 - ITF (W60) Les Franqueses des Valles, Spain Hard

Lovely when you don't care who wins. Really nice to see Katy looking fit and healthy. Maybe a little more muscle too???

Jodie certainly had her chances in the second set and got a little careless on the ball which really cost her.

Didn't seem a great deal of love lost between them (although maybe I'm imagining it......)

Katy wins 4-6 7-5 6-2 to face top seed Badosa tomorrow. Wasn't expecting that, but she was definitely the better player from midway through the second set and deserved it.

Jodie did appear to be holding her abdomen in the final set so not sure if there's anything in that.

Either way, fantastic week for Katy and she's win 2 matches in one day when she was the betting underdog. Great week for Jodie too reaching a W60 SF.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that as well, a big 'come on' from Katy at 5-2 and then a pretty quick / cold handshake and little acknowledgement.

I won't lie, I was hoping for a Jodie-Bucsa final, but you certainly can't begrudge Katy after the 10 months or so that she has had and her well documented frustrations towards the back end of last year, particularly around Shrewsbury 25k time. Is that her biggest points haul ever? As FW says, it's come at a great time with the grass season a month away - even if not for WCs, just to get her ranking up to give herself more chance of making draws - really hope she can pull it off tomorrow.

Well congrats indeed to Katy. She's certainly had her doubters over the last few months, including herself, so it's great to see her showing the stamina and control to see this match out, especially as she had the much longer first match today. Jodie's perfunctoriness may have been because she was the favourite and saw herself as that, and maybe picked up a niggle too, but I hope she learns the lesson around patience and stamina too. Good luck to Katy tomorrow, nothing to lose. She's already managed a big jump back up in the rankings, now back past Jodie and up to about 260.

SF: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 299 beat BURRAGE, Jodie Anna (GBR) 297 4-6 7-5 6-2

F: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 299 vs BADOSA GIBERT, Paula (ESP) [1] 124 (CH:116)

And wonder whether Jodie will still appear for the doubles SF? I'm sure Olivia has said, it's fine if you withdraw, but underneath with her lengthy injury and now back to a W60 SF, she will be desperate to play.

... and they are warming up now, barely 30 mins after Jodie got off the court.

Chuffed for Katy who's had a torrid time.

Opportunity missed for Emily this week but good to see Eden making progress.

Yes, really pleased to see 3 Brits into the W60 doubles final. It's great for Eden and Olivia, especially since Olivia has only just started playing again, and great too for Jodie to see through her third match of the day successfully to reach at least one final for the week.

I wonder who, of Eden and Olivia, Beth was due to play with. Could it have been an all British final?
