Looking at Jo's 5 week ranking, she seems to gain 100 points in 3-4 weeks time? Is it an error on live rankings or is it a quirk in the way counters are included?
Looking at this, she will only be 80 points shy in 5 weeks of WR 32 Cibulkova. Good incentive to have a good run as she could push up into the slam seedings with some good results, I think?

It's an error unless there is a new donation system in the middle of the French Open!
I can see the earlier weeks.
06/05: live ranking 1235 - tick
13/05: 1235 - 65 + 0 = 1170 ( so agree if you give her a Premier Mandatory 0 though trust she will get at least 10 )
20/05: 1170 - 105 + 55 ( first non counter ) = 1120 so flows from the previous 1170 OK.
27/05: 1120 - no change - OK
03/06: 1220 - err, no idea. She is defending just the 10 points at the French Open but where the 100 points increase comes from who knows?
The increase comes from the mandatory French Open counter being replaced by a higher scoring non-mandatory counter. I also don't think this week includes a mandatory Madrid counter unlike the previous weeks, thus two 55pt counters being added over the previous week less 10pts dropping off =+100 (which, of course, isn't what actually happens)

Tremendous fighting spirit from Jo, hope she has something left in the tank for the next match.
110 points replaces 55, and up to 43 in OER live rankings.
I hope she does have something left in the tank as she has to play her R1 match in Madrid on Sunday (I'm assuming they'll give her Saturday off, irrespective of her result tomorrow). At the moment the points she's gained here only replace the points she'll lose next week, so she'll have to win tomorrow or on Sunday to have a net gain over the two weeks.
I hadn't realised they started the MD matches as early as Saturday. So I hope she does get a Sunday match.
Just to note for anyone else, Jo's upcoming points drops are 65 from Madrid and 105 from Rome.

Wow! Whilst I understand that, and to a purist they may think this is totally the right thing to do, to the layman it makes no sense at all. You should just add up points in a given 12 month period up to a maximum total of events, no mandatorys dropping or coming in or being treated one way for top 30 or anything else. the public at large I suspect dont care and it doesnt help explain how tennis works to anyone.
I am sure there are many arguments out there that say this is perfect and right but they are completely wrong - it isnt. Make it simple in all walks of life and you stand a good chance of winning.

And my head hurts.
I think you're looking too far ahead Jon! OER doesn't show the 1220 by the way, just 1175 for this week, which is 1120+55, then 1165 for the following week, which is minus the current French Open trend. Of course, once we get there, this 03/06 live ranking will drop away altogether as it is in the middle of the French Open, so following the 27/05 official ranking, the next live ranking will be 10/06.
Last Brit I see in a WTA level clay SF was Robson in Palermo, 2012.
Also: Keothavong, Warsaw (Premier), 2009
Anyone know any different?
This is correct. I don't think it is appreciated what a rare occurrence it is for a British woman to reach the semi finals of a WTA level clay court event. Prior to the above and Jo now, the previous time this happened was Jo Durie at the 1983 French Championships. So basically it is 4 times in the last 36 years. Yet in a bye-gone era between 1955 and 1961 GB had 4 different of the French Championships and also Sue Barker in 1976.
Then again one can't point to individual results and judge TA or bookies on those, tennis players being as often unpredictable as they are and having variable good and bad days.
They do though give pre event indications based on their methodology.
