Week 17 - ITF (W25) - Andijan, Uzbekistan - Hard

Lissey was top of the q list, so is VERY unlucky not to make the MD.

QR1: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) [q1] 481/886 vs Elina NEPLIY (RUS) UNR/594 (CH:978)

Yes, extremely unlucky that both SE spots look to have been taken and not one withdrawal from the 13 players above her. Sometimes being top seed in qualifying can be advantageous like if say someone like Harriet just missed out on a weak WTA international draw and had a very good chance of 12 points for 1 Q win, but when you haven't won a single ranking point all year and have to win 2 matches in one day just to get a point, this isn't one of them. Sneaking in last minute and drawing a MDWC would have been much preferred, but hopefully she can come through.

Don't know much about players at this level, but all 3 potential opponents look manageable. You'd probably assume the Indian 14th seed would come through her Q1 match and neither Nepliy or Bavisetti are crazy young, so should be less of an unknown quantity and their recent results don't stand out, although to be fair, they'll probably be thinking the exact same thing about Alicia.

She is currently in the main draw next week, also in Uzbekistan, which is good.

In a cruel twist of fate, one of the SEs is the last in the qualifying list so if Freya hadn't withdrawn, they wouldn't have been eligible for a SE and Lissey would be in the main draw

The Indian 14th Q seed Bavisetti did win comfortably, dropping just 3 games against her local opponent, but Alicia is an early break down in her Q1 match 2-3*

Alicia breaks back and there's actually been 4 breaks of serve in the opening 6 games. *3-3.

And an early break up in the second. 5 games in a row, so hopefully she is well on her way. *1-0

Wins 6-3 6-4. I assume the FQR match is also today as usual?

No, the FQR matches are only tomorrow, Ace, as there is both a men's and women's tournament happening at the same venue. I suspect Lissey may struggle in her FQR match, as it's likely to be much harder than today.

FQR: Alicia BARNETT (GBR) [q1] 481/886 vs Sowjanya BAVISETTI (IND) [q14] 750/497 (CH:571)

It's a combined mens/womens event - and the fact sheet indicates qualifying over two days. I see all the QR1 matches are now finished, and it's just about sunset tie there, so I doubt there will be any more matches today.

Edit - as the man posted above !
