Pretty good with your timings Ace, couple of minutes out - warm-up just started, and Fran to serve first.

Ha, helped by the second match going a lot quicker than the first. I keep forgetting that a match on clay usually takes a bit longer than hard.

Naiktha has turned it around and will now serve for the set. *6-5 Naiktha.

7-5 Naiktha. That's a good recovery.

7-5 2-6 - Fran came back from an early break down in the second set to win 6 of the next 7 games.

C'mon Fran, let's get your year going. And beating Naiktha would be a good win.

Think a decent aim would be GB #9 by November

Interesting to see these two face off, quite noisy for Brits, and Jones' bludgeoning against Bains' measured approach.
Bains volleys look to need improvement in time for her inevtiable SW19 WC of some flavour.
Neither are playing a particularly 'clay' brand of tennis; for exanple, no evidence of slide technique.

Fran plays a very clay court game in her topspin heavy approach. Always thought her style was more suited to clay.

3 successive MPs come and go for Bains, so she'll have to try and serve it out *5-4 (Bains) final set.

Which she does and wins 7-5 2-6 6-4. Only really useful to her though if she can back it up with another win over the in form Brouleau next and make the quarter finals.

Forgot Fran was also from Leeds.

Bains' service motion has a bit of the Caro Garcia about it.

Jones' game probably has the better absolute upside potential if it can be harnessed sufficiently well. She tries to win points directly. Currently that often includes too directly.
Bains cagier style will probably actually provide readier rewards, but the ceiling is not as high unless something else develops alongside it.

Still good to see some Brits on the dust and not pigeon-holing themselves.
Quite like to see Gabi's match, too. Even thoug, at time of writing, it is not going terribly well, with half a set played, and Taylor still to trouble the scoreboard.

Gabi get her first hold of the match, and back on terms in the 2nd. 2-2*
