In fairness to her, she probably can't turn it down contractually even if she wanted to.

And a wild card to Indian Wells too.

I hope for the best but fear two more first round losses if the draw is unkind to her.

I know her profile is huge etc etc but for the sake of her tennis she needs to be playing matches and learning how to win regularly not just the occasional win in a high level competition.

With 96 player fields in IW and Miami and the 32 seeds getting byes into R2, she is likely to get R1 draws that, based on much of her form this year so far, she should have decent chances in.

More generally, yes she certainly does need matches.

Lets not forget, Tennis Abstracts ELO rating system has her at 49, based on performances as opposed to wins. So shes got it. Just needs to get the wins.

Her ELO rating is based largely on her pre-injury matches and mostly her US Open win. Its not a reflection of her current performance. But if you want to rely on ELO rating then she has fallen from 38 on 8 January to 48 today. Which, if anything can be read into it, it may be to suggest she is not performing as well as pre-injury.

Hey Lambda - youre much better at stats than me but this is the current ELO on TA (other versions are available)

https://tennisabstract.com/reports/wta_elo_ratings.html

Ive always read these as representing the past 52 weeks and there is an in year yELO As well. So being 48th as of today reflects the TA view of her current standing based on 52 weeks of play? Not inclusive of her US Open win Or her career.

I may be misreading that, sorry if I am and I dont mean to contradict you at all as I know you understand these things for more than myself! (That isnt supposed to be facetious and sorry if it sounds that way, just keen to learn!)

In the list, her current rating is 1800 or so. Her career high was 2005 post that US Open win, but thats now out of the current rating ?

Katie is shown as 46.

www.youtube.com/watch

Marcus Buckland (ATP/WTA Amazon Prime tennis youtube thingy) saying what many of us said at the time, that dropping Richardson - SO quickly i.e. immediately - after the US Open win was just a really bad mistake

And saying, which I don't if true but lets' go with him, he's the Amazon Prime tennis man, that Andy received no bonus, he was on a very limited contract, there was no 'gesture', even if not contractually required

Doesn't look good, Emma .....

Emma entered in Roland Garros qualifying www.wtatennis.com/news/3990523/raducanu-errani-bejlek-enter-roland-garros-qualifying
Bet that court will be packed if she doesnt get a place in the draw!
