Tennis Abstract rate Jay as likely semifinalist here, close to finalist as well so clearly his performance last week has boosted their perception of him

Would be nice to see Jay back up last week with another good tournament. Breaking the top 150 would be a nice bonus.

Coming off the highs of last week, the first match can be tough mentally so that is another impressive win for Jay.

Well done Jay. As Bob says, hard sometimes to come back after winning a title. Also playing against another promising young player who's beaten a couple of people just outside the top 100.

That's good as others say, well done Jay. The good thing about these Chinese clay events is that the entry is largely Aussies and Asian players, not clay courters from birth so giving Jay a chance to get some wins and some real practice on the dirt. It's good strategic planning from him and paying off.

Delighted to see Jay keeping the momentum from last week going.  For the record:

L32:  (12) Jay Clarke WR 161 defeated Max Purcell (AUS) WR 242 by 7-6(2) 6-3

*****

L16:  (ALT) Ben Patael (ISR) WR 512 (CH = 499 in May 2017) vs (12) Jay Clarke WR 161

I seem to recall Patael being quite a handy player at Futures level & he beat the sixth seed, Jason Kubler, in three sets in his L32 match, but Jay could hardly have hoped for a better L16 draw...

the second seed has pulled out of Jay's half as well and Jay is now rating as the favourite to reach the final by tennis abstract

Jay loses the first set 6-3. Only caught the last few points so not sure whether Jay's level is down after so many consecutive matches or of Patael is playing particularly well.

Possible clue from the first service game in set two. Patael isn't really making errors, he's like a wall at the moment. Interesting challenge for Jay after our conversation about Jay having to be more aggressive in matches.
