Wow, that was some turn around from Mandy for sure. Plays the 3rd seed next who put out Alice Tubello, the top seed, easily today.

Next week Mandy is 73 in the live ITF rankings. The 60 points she has so far this week will take her up to about 50 in the rankings, win the tournament and the 110 pts will probably get her just inside the top 40, marginally ahead of Fran Jones.

So Vicens Mas has avenged her defeat to Mandy last year. So Mandy's accrual from this week stops at 60 points, and from the last two weeks at 90 points. She will probably have hoped for a bit more than that, but she will now be up to about 50 in the ITF rankings when all these points go on. She is trying to enter 25ks now, but still might not find it that easy to get into the MD reserved ITF places, and without a WTA ranking, qualifying is near impossible.

Pity. But another decent week and getting these matches in which will steadily progress her back towards more competitive form.

Re Mandy's 25K entry prospects I most certainly have the impression that it has become much easier to get at least qualifying entry as the year has gone on with maybe more tournaments and not so many players entering everywhere they could so that even if places opened they tended to open very late.

So not sure a WTA ranking is so essential ( although clearly very useful ) just to get into qualifying and her improving ITF ranking could still be useful in that regard.

I know someone did stats about the general ranking levels being required a month or two ago. I don't know if anyone has more up to date info?
