He won! Didnt play as well as he has all week but it was blowing a proper gale and he dealt with it better. Fully deserved. You cant win pretty all the time!
With regard to comments about his lack of winners and waiting for errors, I also remember concerns being expressed in commentary during his match with Gulbis at Wimbledon that he lacked a big weapon. But hopefully these things can be worked on in time. Already made great progress for a 20-year-old.
Excellent from Jay and it looks like a new career high ranking. On red clay also rather than messing on the har tru stuff in the States, be great to see him do well next week in Nanchang as well, then presumably back to Europe?
Has the RG qualifying entry list been published yet? I'm assuming Jay's in but not sure what his ranking was at the relevant date? I'm sure someone on here will know? It's great to see him back fully fit and playing so well again.

The qualifying list will be based on the 29/04 rankings so no doubt now
Jay certainly is far from the most attacking player but can be rather more so than today. Impressive nous to apparently so adapt to the conditions this week and come away with the title.
I recall another player who appeared to have superb potential, in his case an admirable mixer up and defensive player, but generated a fair amount of discussion as to whether he needed a more attacking game to win at the very highest level.
He almost certainly did and he developed that game. Not comparing Jay to Andy in overall ability but players can certainly very successfully change their approach over the years, especially if the talent is there to do so and Jay does have good attacking shots in his locker.
