Week 16 - ATP Masters 1000 - Monte-Carlo, Monaco (clay)

That's the set gone. 6 games in a row, which is a bit shocking. Has someting happened to Kyle? Only watching scores here.

It's almost like...Schwartzman can play on clay or something. (why does something "have" to happen to our players? Diego is a great player himself - that is enough, no?)

Kyle is going to rue losing that 2nd set lead. He is being well beaten in the 3rd set.

Yes I know it was always a tough draw, but I just wondered, that's all.

Bah, if the seedings had been based on today's rankings it would have been Bautista Agut that would have been the new #17 seed and Kyle would have been left where he was.

Jaziri, the alt in Kyle's original spot, lost 4 & 4 to Lajovic.

Don't know of course if Kyle would have beaten Lajovic but it looked rather preferable.

Whatever luck of the draw he may or may not have had before, the 3 masters this year have not been kind.

Well beaten in the end though

Jaggy will be all over this. Losing 12 games out of 13 is pretty alarming mind, especially a higher ranked seed who is reasonably competent on clay.

Well that was abysmal...Kyle was cruising up a set and 3-0 and playing well enough at 70-80% of his best level. That service game to gift a beaten Tiny Tim a way back into the match was a shocker. Its like hed been taking lessons in tennis psychology from Mad Fabio who was on before him.

Have to say thats me done now watching Kyle live. I appreciate I had publicly committed to following him for all matches up to and including Eastbourne, but the joy has gone for me. I make that his 15th match of 2019 Ive attended (as most will be aware I was prevented from witnessing the Berdych match after that mistaken identity incident with that cat getting strangled in Montmorency, Melbourne).

All season its been a familiar tale of cross-court superb off both wings, in particular the forehand. Down the line has constantly been missing in the trams and today was no exception. Short backhand after short backhand sliding wide, even when in the driving seat.

Only thing Im not berating Kyle for is the crowd. There were plenty of English accents in the crowd at the MCCC as usual, but all preferred to let a vocal minority cheer Schwartzman onto victory. Credit to them they generated a great noise and it clearly helped their man. Those supporting Kyle preferred to look glum and sit on their hands.

Im moving on to follow Radu Albot for the next few months methinks.

Not really Ace cant see why I would be. Tough draw against a clay specialist who played well so no shame in that. You will need to explain....

Cam v Mannarino - enjoyable viewing so far. Serving for the set.

Diego is a good player, so there's no shame at all in losing to him as you say, even if it was something routine like 3-6 2-6, but when Kyle was actually the slight 4/7 pre match favourite (for whatever reason), and a seed, to lose 12 of 13 games from the position he is in, is pretty bad and as someone who comes across as one of Kyle's biggest critics on here (just the impression I get), I thought it would have been prime ammunition in your over ranked theory.

Cam won the first set and is a break up in the second, but best not count our chickens yet...

L32:  Marton Fucsovics (HUN) WR 37 (CH = 31 last month) vs Cameron Norrie WR 56

The Hungarian took out the 12th seed, Basilashvili (WR 17), in three sets yesterday.
